Hello, I would like to get some input as to whether I've chosen an optimum mounting point for the Escort ZR3 shifters. I'm thinking about placing the second shifter inside the vent [see -4-] (right below the Suzuki emblem); however, about 90% of the shifter will protrude outside the vent - the vent is only about 1/2-in deep. Also for the second shifter, I thought about rotating it upward about 3-5 degrees for overpass speedtraps.
I have the ZR3 linked to the Passport X50. The ZR3 control unit is mounted inside the trunk and the mute/shifter disable button is located in one of the storage compartments. I have the X50 mounted to the right brake reservior. I plan to install the Radar Screamer this weekend.
I've already received several false laser alerts, but no shifting alerts; the false alerts usually happen as a pass by a doppler radar station; however, today while commuting to work, I received my first shifting alert. At first I was pretty excited, hey the thing is actually works, but then I was like oh s$%%, I better slow down. After decreasing my speed, I opened the storage compartment, double-clicked the shifter disable button, and continued driving a few mph over the speed limit. I couldn't find any sign of a speed trap, so after a mile from the initial alert, I continued on with my commute to work.
