I wanted to see how this gun could handle its self in major traffic. So I picked a road where the limit was 55mph, and I had a clear shot up to 2000FT.
I then found a side road - pulled my car in behind a large tree. but just let enough hanging out so that there is no way you could see me. heck even had the tinted window half way up so that as soon as I got a reading all I had to do was drop the gun a hair and it basically looked like I was trying to pull onto the road.
wow - first of all traffic enforcement is not a fun job. the HUD no matter what I did would always dialate my left eye. so that after I was finished surveying I would pull back and it took like 20 seconds for my eye to readjust not cool.
I also learned a few different things. I took my time and compared colors. White cars where far easier to get a reading than a dark car. some times they where instant. Dark colored cars especially this black Regal was a real trooper it took me to around 600FT to get a reading and I would say I started around 1500FT on him. so those of you worried about your jammer - I wouldn't. there is no pattern, rhythm, or science while you are out there. every car is different.
next up the funny thing I have been laughing about for awhile. God Bless our truckers these guys are smart as hell. I hit one going around 70MPH and I swear to you I never hit another truck going faster than 58 :-) almost all of them after this where in the right lane just trolling along, when they would pass me they would all have there CB in hand starring me down like WTF these sneeky aholes in there unmarked bright red trans am!!!
Distance is very important. I found that while looking through the HUD its very hard on a 2 lane street over 1300FT to see exactly what car you are shooting UNLESS they are white, or they have day time running lights. if you have DRL find a way to turn them off it makes you an easy easy target.
the big winner today was a civic running 89MPH at 1200FT in a 55MPH. This made me sick he was really hauling, and he got up on a SUV and got about 4 ft from there bumper. man I wish I would of caught this on video I would mailed it in with his licence plate.
other than that the AVG speed was around 68 in a 55. the reason for this DE has a rule that as long as you are 13 or under basicallyt the ticket means nothing, unless you get another one in a year. then they both count! next time I go out I'm gonna take a CB so I can record the chatter!!
overall impressions: the LA is a beast at distance, and very very quick. the avg reading time was around 3 seconds. I love the setting where you have it emit a tone when it gets a speed / range lock. my only disappointment was the HUD dialting my eye.
