    Default Kustom ProLaser II

Sorry, but not sure where this should go..but I just purchased a used Kustom lidar gun...(pl2) and im kinda noob..but i don't think its working. It loads up. My Valentine 1 alerts to laser when I point and shoot @ my car...but when i point and shoot at other cars (highway, city,..diff speeds/diff cars) i dont get a reading. Nor, i dont hear anything (like shouldn't there be a locking tone?)...
Does anyone know whats up? Is it broken? Can someone give (or show me) a user/owners manual for the pl2?

    Thanks a ton!

The prolaser 1 and 2's take a bit longer to get a reading. They're not 1/3 second read times like the newest guns. I know for sure the kustom pro laser 1 has a 5 second minimum timer before it'll give you a speed reading, so you have to keep that gun super steady on the plate for 5 long seconds. Try this out a bit and if it still doesn't work let us know.

Try it in RNG (range) mode first to see if it works in that mode. To put it in RNG mode, push the lower half of the TEST and RANGE buttons simultaneously, until "MODE RNG" shows up in the display. In this mode, it shows distances only, and will give readings on stationary objects (>15 feet or so). This makes it easier to get the hang of how the gun works, as you can shoot it at nearly anything and get a distance reading. Once you're comfortable getting distance readings, try it in speed mode (press TEST and RANGE repeatedly again until it goes back to MODE SPD, or turn the gun off and on again). Make sure the objects (cars) you're clocking are coming toward you or away from you. It won't read speeds of cars perpendicular to the beam.

If you don't hear the "dit dit dit beeeeep" when it locks in a reading, check the volume switch (middle position is no sound).

I've only clocked speeds a couple times with mine, and it takes maybe 2-3 seconds to lock in a speed. Not as long as the PL I but slower than the PL III.
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

Yes, that's a good idea. He should also do a HUD alignment test. It's possible the laser isn't even hitting the object he's aiming at.

Okay, I went outside ........... My v1 still alerts to laser. I put it in "RNG" mode....pointed it cars driving towards me....and nothing. I tried it at cars that we'ere parked ... Nothing. The volume switch is not in the middle, its up...I hear the sound when the gun starts up and does its self check. But after that, when targeting a vehicle, I hear nothing. I bought this gun on ebay....
So how can I do a HUD alignment test?

There's two ways to check the HUD alignment. One way is to switch to RNG mode and target a telephone pole and pan back and forth across the pole to verify that you get the reading when the HUD reticle is in front of the pole... repeat with the gun sideways to verify vertical alignment. Of course the gun has to be functional (giving distance readings) to test this...

Option 2 is to use a digital camera or camcorder that has an infrared nightshot mode. Point the camera at a street sign or something reflective and then aim the gun at the sign and see if you can see the beam in the camera. Verify that the beam is hitting the same spot that you see in the HUD reticle.

The laser beam is obviously working if the V1 alerts. The problem is either in the alignment or in the receiving circuits. You never get the "dit dit dit" when shooting at something? Try standing back 20-30 feet from your car and shoot your front plate in RNG mode. Hold the trigger in and pan the gun back and forth and up and down. You should get a reading at some point even if the alignment is off, unless something is wrong with the gun.

Of course check the obvious... if the gun came with a lens cover, did you remove it? Are the lenses clean?

I cleaned the lenses when it arrived. I don't even get the "beep beep beep" (locking tone) when i trigger the gun and point at anything.

You'll only get the beep beep beep when you're clocking a moving object (in speed mode) or an object greater than 15 feet away (in RNG mode). If you're shooting something say 30-40 feet away and not getting beep beep beep, something isn't right with the gun. Do you have any recourse with the seller? Or maybe Jimbonzzz here can look at it for you. If anyone can fix it, he can.
