Default Infrared pictures of LaserPatrol (aka. TraffiPatrol)

I took these pictures with a modified Canon Rebel XT (IR-filter removed) It nicely shows the illumination pattern this lasergun projects at 165 and 330ft.

Notice the reflectivity of the licenseplate compared to the rest.

From my understanding there is no Jamming involved here. LaserPatrol is the model of the gun. The second picture shows the laser hitting the license plate, and how reflective it is.

    that is too cool!

i thought about pulling it out of my cam, but i'd probably screw it up, so I'll just get a sony at some point with nightshot.

It turned out to be a lot more difficult to take these pictures than I expected.
The lasergun was in calibration mode. In this mode the laser is constantly transmitting laserpulses (100/second) for as long as you keep the button pressed. (I locked the button using a tie wrap)

    This is the math:

    - Laserfrequency: 100Hz
    - Exposure time: 30 sec
    - Total number of pulses in the exposure: 100*30=3000 pulses
    - Each pulse has a length of 20ns

    > 3000 X 0.000000020 = 0.00006 sec

    - The laserpower is around 20W (pulse)

So on these pictures you see the result of 20Watt switched on for only 60 micro seconds, not a lot of photons for the CCD chip in the camera to register.

Now I know the drill. On the next moonless night I will take better pictures, some pictures at longer distances, some pictures using my other lasergun, some pictures with jammer activity and some pictures using Veil.

Can't wait! JTG every time I hope

Question: Laserpatrol is 100Hz in calibration mode, what is the rate in regular speed mode?
