Default LPP beats PLIII, I think...

I have a new single head LPP installed in the lower center of the main grill of my Silver Infiniti G35. I was driving along in Silver Spring MD with a coworker in the car talking about buisness and not exactly paying attention to the PSL which was 30mph. I get an alert, first ever, so it took me a second to realize what it was and hit the brakes, IIRC I was doing 40ish. The alert continued for a while (perhaps a 3-4 seconds) then I saw a motorcycle LEO with a PLIII on the sidewalk perhaps 200' ahead of me, he was not pointing the PLIII at me anymore, but was holding it down looking at the control panel. When I passed by him I looked in the rearview and he was certainly watching me as I passed and watching me drive away. I estimate I was at about 500' when the LEO first shot me and the LPP allowed me enough time to slow down. So I beleive it worked... Would I get a ticket for 40 in a 30 in MD anyway, more than likely yes I would.

The one answer I need is does the LPP turn the audible alert off when it no longer detects laser? Or does the audible alert turn off after the 8 second shut down period is reached. I cant recall because I was so freaked at the time, but I think the audible alert stopped then before 8 seconds was reached. I did hear the LPP reset when it came back on, so I know it did turn off and back on again.

The PLIII is, according to the GOL site, not only believed to be the most common LIDAR threat, but also, apparently, one of the easiest to jam.

From reviewing their past testing data, it would seem that even LED-based jammers have no trouble obtaining JTG performance, even the ZR3.

The LPP, especially the latest revision, I doubt would have had problems with it - the other diode-based jammers also showed excellent performance against this device, on the same GOL tests.

you will find the LPP alerts for a few seconds after the laser has stopped firing at you. Somtimes it is 2 seconds, somtimes it is 5+ seconds.

always best to turn your jammer off after you slow down. Only jam for as long as you need to.

I do have the controls for the LPP mounted in my ashtray for easy access. I wanst driving the car in an agressive manner with my "race" face on, so the alert through me for a loop. The coworker I had in the car was from another city and isnt exactly into cars and stuff. So I was way out tune from my suroundings and equipment. I even had my STI turned off because I could tell it was aggrivating my coworker when we were in the city area. When Im on the highway and driving to make up time Im in the zone and would more than likley think to turn off the LPP when I'm back down to PSL range. But this time I'm just glad I had the LPP because it saved me.

The reason I got the LPP in the first place is because I got a ticket for 60 in a 45 just entering the 45 zone from a 55 zone. MSP shot me with a PLIII at ~1200'. In this instance I was driving back from a tire shop who had just damaged the wheels on my new car and I was LIVID and just out of it, not intentionally speeding, just driving. I pled guilty using what MD calls Probation Before Judgement (PBJ). I had to pay the fine of $90, its not on my record and I got no points, BUT If I get a speeding conviction in the next three years the old ticket will go on my record and i get those points added. So a the LPP is a must have for me, Im in outside sales and drive a lot, 15000 miles since Septemner in the new G35!

I find that usually when folks get tickets they are just not paying attention and dont see the LEO or the brake lights in the groups of cars up the road. Paying attention and looking for signs of speed enforcement is the best defence when you are intentionally speeding, as we all know. But when your driving and not focused on what your doing (not good, but we all do it) somthing like the LPP or a RD is the only thing that could save you.

Ill chalk this one up as a save, not realy a win becuse I was not intentionally speeding...

I was wondering if an LEO noticed that a car had a bra on it if they would automatically shoot the headlight not center mass or plate? I washed my car today and since I drive it so much I have many chips, so I am thinking about a bra. It LEO's would shoot my headlight instead of center mass the the effectivness of my single head system would be reduced. Whata yall think?

Don't know about a LEO, but if I see a black bra and I know the beam reflectiveness is what gives me a reading I'd go for whatever is most reflective I can see. Headlights, frontplate, blinkers, etc...........

Those are the surfaces that can be "covered" with reflective reducing coating like VEIL etc....

I've never used VEIL and I'm not endorsing it, but anything which cuts down on reflectiveness is good in my eyes.

Just as a useless factoid: Old brown /gray oak tree bark is reflective enough at 120 feet to give a range reading on a LIDAR gun.

I'M an idiot then, because the one time I did turn my jammer off the officer got a inaccurate reading saying I was driving 83 when I was driving 65.

No more of that possible threat for me. Everyone else is welcome to turn their jammer off, but i'll leave mine on thanks.
