Default Laser Jammers and Laser Residual

    All,

I picked up a confirmed laser shot today on I-95 with my RX-65. I am not sure if the Range Rover about 3 cars lengths ahead of me was shot and I picked up the residual or I was targeted directly. My question is if I had a laser jammer like LPP or Blinders would they have alerted me if residual laser was coming from the targeted vehicle in front of me or would I have to be directly targeted for them to alert me?

    Thanks.

Tough, it could go either way, depending on the specific situation and the jammer. Some jammers have sensitive enough receivers which might be likely to alert in a situation like this where a vehicle in front of you is targeted.

    Jim,

Would you happen to know which jammers are more sensitive than others?

    Thanks.

Why would you want to jam residual laser? Or do you want it more to try to get an advanced warning since your RX65 prolly won't do that great of a job?

Just wanted to know if I will get an alert from the jammer if it picks up any residuals. Not looking to jam residuals.

since laser is so concentrated if you have 2 heads and a detector thats 3 points that could get a reading. Since laser is just light, I don't think a jammer could tell if it has received a direct hit or scatter. Unless of course they are set-up to a certain sensitivity. I would assume that a jammer would be much better at picking up a threat, be it direct or not, then a RD.

Then again i'm no expert on this.

I think it would really depend. If it was a direct hit, the jammer better pick it up better than the a radar detector :P

As for scatter, especially the type that spills through the car in front of you, then your detector would have more of a chance with that since it's more in line of site with any lite that could come through.

Funny that you ask this, we almost did a laser jammer receive sensitivity test at the recent "GOL" tests, but we didn't...

The Escort Zr3 and lidatek LE30 are most sensitive to laser i believe but it you are llooking for ultimaete laser protection get a V1 which will alert to the early laser hit and a LPP/AL/LI will jam the laser when directly hit.

    ^ I'll ride VOLVO's coat-tails on this one - that's what I think, too.

I don't have enough experience with the Lidateks to back-up his assertion with that one, but it's been mentioned more than once, by multiple sources, that the ZR3 seems to be particularly sensitive at picking up scatter/residual.

I think that the V1 still beats it, but that may be dependent just as much on situation/circumstance (i.e. how the shot was taken, placement of the receiver/detector, etc.) as anything else.

As VOLVO cited, also, there's some anecdotal evidence to say that units like the AL and LPP are rather "specific" in terms of "response."
