    Default LPP Mounting Bracket Question

I'm about to mount the sensor to my car using the supplied bracket but I'm worried about how well it will hold up over time. The bracket is a piece of steel painted black. You can bend it or cut off what you don't need.

In the videos I've seen, the sensor is simply pushed into the area where it's meant to be held. There are two extensions bent so they will clamp and hold the sensor but it seems to me if this is what you do, you will scrape the paint and eventually the bracket will start to rust. I'm thinking of spreading the clamping area open enough so the sensor will slide in easily then release the two sides and let them spring back, holding the sensor in place.

In addition, I was thinking maybe it would be a good idea to dip the whole thing in liquid plastic (except the front plate naturally) to further weather proof the install. Anyone else have some ideas? The alternative would be to make a mounting bracket out of delrin or something else non-corrosive.

    Thanks

good observation. basically they are cheap and one of my biggest gripes. the one I've had on the back of my car for right about 7 months is already rusting and the black paint is chipping off.

when ever you go to put the head in, its a good idea to spread them out. I use needle nose to spread them. Then vice grips to get um just right.

liquid plastic is a good idea but I would not put it on to thick. since each bracket is different its possible if you make it to thick it might be impossible to use the bracket.

when you go to bend the bracket be careful. where ever you see the shark logo it breaks there very easy. so again make sure you use vice grips and go slow if you want to get it perfect. also keep a file around because once you do bend it, its going to leave sharp / jagged edges.

    best o luck.

talked to Kris & KMPH. He tells me the new ones "smaller ones" are made of zinc & yellow pasavated, that offer a 10 year corrosion warranty.

So when were these "new" ones made? Hopefully I got that type of bracket

I think it will take a long time for it to rust through. I just hope it keeps workin'

Good observations and suggestions by all.

I'm glad that KMPH will be offering different mounts. Depending on how mine look after a few more months, I might want to go with the updated ones.

Oh, and one more tip to share with everyone.

If you've already bent the bracket, then y'all know how hard it is to get flat again - and bending and re-bending it may cause breakage.

An easy solution is to simply put a nearly flattened-out bracket into a table-vise. Use a couple of pieces of wood (or towels) as padding, and just squeeze.

    Voila! Flat as new. 8)

    Default Here is another idea

If people are concerned with durability, why not find a local shop who does powdercoating? Much more durable than paint and fairly inexpensive.
