Default New LPP and New AL G8

Just a couple of notes of interest. Comments appreciated:
I have a new AL G8 and a new LPP.

I ordered the AL G8 direct from AL and it arrived yesterday. It came loaded with 17.40 software. That was a bit of a surprise as I thought they were up to 17.46. Are there any jam code issues with 17.40 here in the US? I thought there was one or two that required 17.46

The LPP came with what I think are the older steel encased sensors. The AL came with the newer aluminum encased sensors. Are the aluminum newer or the other way around?

Why did you get both? Which seems built better?

I got both of them because I have two cars that I drive quite a bit and a third that is more of a summer fun car (1971 Detroit iron). Plus there is the family van. So I have plenty of cars to install in and I am something of an electronics geek. The company I work for is in electronics. I often just cannot help myself. If there is something out there that I can compare and try to draw some conclusions from, I am very likely to do it. So since many comment that they are very similar I thought I would try to validate that for myself while needing more than one anyway.

I have two V1 detectors and 1 escort 9500i as well. There to be honest I was able to convince myself that for my purposes the V1 was just much better and I wanted to at least have the detector that I felt most confident about in at least two of the cars. If I had discovered the speed cheetah mirror earlier I may never have bought the 9500i. Which is not to say that there is anything particularly wrong with it. Liked the V1 arrows right away and do think it is a bit better at alerting.
