Default general question about laser jamming heads

I keep reading people going back and forth in here talking about Diodes vs. LED's

I was under the impression that LED stands for Light Emitting DIODE.

Am I mistaken in that the industry has come out with something new? Or is it just a mixup between the over usage of an acronym vs full description? :?:

People use the term diode when referencing a laser diode and Led for light emitting diode. We could say LD and Led but reading is > than far too many folks here and it'll only lead to more confusion.

ok so there is no real difference, we are just distinguishing between an LED (as in the display) and the LD which emits the 900whatever frequency light?

I do understand the focusing and intensifying process that laser light goes through,

just making sure I'm absolutely clear,

    and thankyou

LED or "diode" when talking about jammers is referring to the devices that emit the jamming IR pulses. LED jammers use invisible infrared LEDs (similar to the ones in your TV remote, but more powerful, and are at 904nm wavelength like LIDAR guns), while "diode" jammers use 904nm infrared laser diodes similar to those used in LIDAR guns.

All else being equal, laser diode jammers are more effective than LED jammers, since the focused beam carries further and the diode has a faster response time (generates cleaner pulses) than an LED can.

Your reply can be misconstrued if read too quickly. Your saying there is no real difference between what?

We are just distinguishing between the LED and LD, both of which emit approx the same infared light for the jamming applications. One is just quicker and more powerful. I think that's what you were saying?
