Default Anti reflective tape taken one step further

Doing a little experiment. 3M clear tape tends to cut down on LIDAR reflections per some earlier non scientific experiments. Why not take it to the next level? 3M offers "paint protection sheeting" up to 18 mil. Should be nearly invisible when applied to a front tag. Hopefully reflections will be greatly reduced. Price is right so I ordered a 12"x24" 18 mil sheet. Enough to cover 4 front tags for less than 20 bucks. Results will be tested during an upcoming LIDAR testing session.

    For the Consumer...

What about using clear polyuathane paint to diffuse light?

That is another item on the list of experments. I have a bunch of old plates as you have to retire them after 5 years in Texas.

...And is what's funny is that the reason the DoT says they have to be retired is because they lose reflectivity. How ironic.

    haha, that's classic.

In Ontario we keep our plates until they can no longer be read.. It's very amusing too since they keep changing the damn design.

The new ones have holograms hidden throughout the "white" areas that can only be seen up close. I guess that's all thanks to cr8apl8.. :P

I think it's 10 years now that they use reflectorized plates.

Just seems totally pointless since the design changes almost every year. there must be at least 10 - 15 different designs on the road right now.. Yes all minor changes, but still.... pick something and go with it!

Anywho, I hijacked this thread without realizing. Sorry..

If anyone actually gets this "paint protection sheeting" and tries it out post some pics, and try reflecting a laser pointer off it onto a wall!
