Angry Canadians get screwed - again.

I want to buy the LI quad. Price is $1225 USD. The current exchange rate puts the Canadian $ at $.97 USD. A difference of $85.75. Which brings the price of the LI quad up to $1310. I realize there is no getting past the exchange rate. But then there is the 12% ($157.20) tax surcharge imposed on us by the federal government (gst and pst). Combine that with the $35 shipping charge. That’s $1502.20, landed cost for the LI quad to Canada. Kinda sucks! This doesn't include the cost of a money order or Western Union, approximately $100 USD. LI won't (or can't) drop ship to a private mail company along the border either. So buying with a credit card is out of the question, the bill to and ship to addresses must match.

In other words the LI quad will cost Canadians approximately:

    $1600

You could always take a vacation to Florida and pay Cliff a personal visit.

Just get the dual and go to the quad later. 6 months from now, you won't miss the $ spent on the dual and will be ready to add the rear. It all about perception. Or just get the 9500ci and get radar and laser all in one.

But I feel ya.. It's not easy and always cost more to buy products outside the border. Only other option is to take a road trip to a friend or relative in U.S.

Living in Vancouver I have the opportunity to make use of private mail services in some of the nearby US border towns. The cost is minimal. I just get whatever I want drop shipped. This means I can save $160 on the taxes.
However, I still have to deal the fact that Cliff can't drop ship on credit card orders. He claims the ship to and bill to address must match. Which means I must send the money via Western Union.

Price of the dual is $700 USD. The current exchange rate puts the Canadian $ at $.97 USD. A difference of $43. Which brings the price of the LI dual up to $743. Add in the 12% ($89) tax surcharge. Add the $35 shipping charge. That’s $867 landed cost for the LI dual to Canada. Add in the Western Union service fee, $100 USD.

    The LI Dual will cost:

    $967

I ordered mine directly from Cliff it was shipped to me and I didn't have to pay another dime at the post office....All I paid was the small exchange rate difference....

Fast4wd, your bank should be able to get you a draft in USD a lot cheaper than $100. Is that really the fee for a Western Union money transfer? That sounds steep as hell. My bank only charges $30 for a foreign wire transfer and the exchange rate is automatic, no extra fee for that. If you did a wire transfer, you wouldn't have to worry about the shipping address either, right?

pretty sure you don'y pay PST on stuff manufactured outside Ontario and purchased outside Ontario.

I had to pay PST on my STi-R thanks to the fact it's made here... but otherwise everything else I've purchased outside Ontario has been PST free.

Also, who in their right mind uses Western Union? Those crooks charge a fortune just to move a few dollars. Use a real bank and pay $6 for a draft, not $100.

There is a LI quad on Ebay for for $1000US shipped to Canada and it says All International Shipments under 5 lbs are Guaranteed duty Free. His old LI auctions said, Customs and brokerage fees are prepaid, we guarantee no fees at time of delivery. Might be worth asking if he still stands by this guarantee
