    Default Question about laser

Is there a difference between a Laser shifter and a Laser jammer? One of my local shops here in MN is telling me that the Zr3 is a laser shifter which is legal in MN. Will the Antilaser be a shifter or are the rest all jammers?

    TIA

"Shifter" is a euphamism. Shifter = jammer.

Yeah it's their term for jammer, Some are shifters some are defusers. All the same, however are not the same exact product.

    Good Question!

so would that mean all jammers are legal in MN or they are just using the term shifter to get passed the law?

No, the term Shifter probably won't get past any laws. It just doesn't sound quite as bad as "Jammer".

The place where I got my X50 no longer sells the ZR3 and they well not say way. But I think its safe to say that its because its a jammer.

According to Motortrends 2003 Radar/Laser detector tests, laser jammers are legal because they're regulated by the FDA, radar jammers dont work and they're illegal and regulated by the FCC

Not true, depends on the state. For example, in MN radar jammers are defined as any device which interferes with a LEO measuring speed. So, by this definition, radar jammer = laser jammer and in MN, the FDA has nothing to do with it.

Here is the actual text off the State of MN website (169.14 subd 12) also at http://www.revisor.leg.state.mn.us/stats/169/14.html

"Subd. 12. Radar jammer. For purposes of this
section, "radar jammer" means any instrument, device, or
equipment designed or intended for use with a vehicle or
otherwise to jam or interfere in any manner with a
speed-measuring device operated by a peace officer.

No person shall sell, offer for sale, use, or possess any
    radar jammer in this state.
    "

That all being said, I'm not sure I'd lose a lot of sleep over it. Installers that I know have no problems putting them in in MN (and that is illegal too) nor do they have anyone that complains about getting hassled by the LEOs for this.
