Post Northeast Jammer Test Results - June '09

This testing was not done in the official manner with a run separately for each aiming spot. Instead the operator acted very similar to how and officer would act when shooting laser. Shooting at center mass initially and then moving to either head or tail light in hopes to get a speed reading. The only numbers reported at the punchthroughs. After punchthrough operator resumed firing in attempt to get a speed again.

The test course picked out for the testing certainly made it tough on the jammers (or installations). With a dip in the road at above 1900 feet+ the jammers were shielded from the gun causing the jammers to miss the initial shot. (If a jammer can’t see the laser beam its no good) The only cars which were immune to this could be due to the stealth signature or the passive countermeasures.

While the LI is godly I am worried about shoots in which my jammer heads might be shielded to the laser guin operator. While in the rear world I never had a situation where my jammer was shielded from the LEO I believe in the method of Always be prepared. So my car will mostlikely have VEIL in the near future to cut down on its general laser reflectivity. I find Punchthroughs at any distance especially long distances quite humiliating

Rob, I would bet that your PTs are due to the position of your heads. Same thing with the BMW. When you go too high or too low, you risk the gun getting a lock before it ever hits the jammer to actuate it. It's not so much "punchthrough," really, as the jammer never even fired. We could tell for sure if you recorded the HUD and audio from the car, so you'd know when during the firing they got a lock. Of course, it could also be a case of the beam straying far enough from the low center to actually punch through too. I just always worry about these low mountings for both of those reasons, as well as the distance from the headlights.

Then why no similar PT's on a Corvette?

The distance isn't nearly as great on the Corvette. The Corvette has much less vertical reflective surface.

Stealth we hashed it out for about hour after the testing and figured it was up to not having a well protected laser signature. How well did the huge sedan do with all those passive counter measures

My car doesn't have enough passive counter measures, getting a reading on my car at 1900ft is unacceptable. And its not the jammers fault, some might blame it on Installation but a majority of all my encounters in the North East have been with the officer aiming low and detector never alerting

I shouldn't have removed my VEIL and I need to paint my grill black ASAP

Agreed. It's all about the layered defence!

While I maintain that the low mounting is the primary culprit, that can be overcome with a commitment to lowering your peripheral signature.

If it was Low mounting that the Covette and A8 would have had the same results

Corvette has a major stealth signature, A8 was extremely covered with passove measures

Their profiles aren't even remotely similar. If the Vette's heads disappear into a dip, the entire car disappears into the dip, because it's only like three feet tall from road to roof. The Volvo is boxy and sticks up significantly higher above the jammers. It also has a flat front end, in addition to the chrome and big headlights you mention. They're just way too different to extrapolate results from one to the other.
