Default I just bought a Pro laser I for $600- did i get a deal?

Hey guys. I've been on the forum before, but have been busy for a while. I recently purchased a new car and transfered over my STI-R radar detector and 4 Blinder laser jammers from the old one.

Although i think i have enough protection, i've been wanting to get my hands on a laser gun to do my own tests and have fun with for a while.

I inquired about renting one on this forum, but it was something like $250 for a week, which just seemed... not worth it.

So i decided i was going to buy one. I've been searching ebay and the only laser guns that seem to be available are the Kustom Pro Laser I and II. I know there are better ones currently in use that are harder to jam, but i'm not spending $2000 for one... I'm setting my cap at $800.

There have been a few Pro Laser II's selling for ~$800 used. I've been saving up for a while and planned on buying one this week. But today, i noticed there was a Pro Laser I on ebay with a starting bid of $600 ending tonight. The auction stated it had just been serviced and that it worked perfectly, and the actual pictures showed the condition to be almost mint. I could also return it if DOA.

In the 15 mins to 'end of auction' i had left, i did a quick research to find the differences between the Pro Laser I and Pro Laser II.

I found a 3pg thread on this site where people were stating that the only difference between the two units involves the use of two lenses on the II vs the single lens for sending and receiving on the I. Members that have used both units stated the only difference in the field was the 'reaction' time, the II beating the I by a little. But nothing stating one was harder to jam than the other.

Having not heard any rock evidence that the Pro Laser I wouldn't work as well as the II, i placed a bid on the Pro Laser I. I put in a bid for $610 half thinking i would be out-bid and not win it, thinking i would spend another $200 for the Pro Laser II later this week- I was torn. Well of course, Murphy's law struck again and i won the thing, for $600 with $15 shipping.

Now i'm wondering if i should have just spotted the other $200 and went with the Pro Laser II for $800 vs this Pro Laser I for 600?

Is the II worth $200 more than the I?

I haven't payed for this Pro Laser I yet, i'm waiting to hear what you guys think before i do- i have 7 days to decide. Do you think i should accept the Pro Laser I or bite the bullet for the $ Pro Laser II?

    Thanks!

Gun is no longer used in law enforcement as it is not certified for use. I know of nothing with that high pulse rate still in use. While it might be fun to play with, it is not an accurate representation for jammer performance when testing. I remember officers complaining about them as they took a really long time to lock. Those PL2s will come down in price before they sale and are a difficult gun to jam. Is it too late to hold out for one of them?

I don't think I would give $600 for either a I or a II, but that's me. If it serves your purpose and you are happy then you made a great deal, who cares about what we think!

It's not too late, as i haven't payed for the Pro Laser I yet. As of this year, ebay doesn't allow sellers to leave negative feedback for buyers, so it's pretty much my choice as to whether i pay or not... lol

Unless i can find another type of laser gun for $800-$900, the only one i can get is the Pro Laser II

I was thinking of buying the pro laser II, using it for a while, then re-selling it after i've had my fun, hopefully getting all of my money back.

If i rented it, i'd be restricted to one week (or whatever time frame), i'd always be worrying about breaking it since it's someone else's, and i'd lose the money.

By purchasing it, i'd be able to relax and keep it for as long as i wanted, and most likely return it or re-sell it for a full refund, not losing a cent.

I "would" get one of the other guns for $2k and do the same thing, but i don't have that kind of money to start with...

Here in Rhode Island and MA most of the officers use the "Laser Atlanta" and the "LTi- Ultralyte".

If i pass on the Pro Laser I (which i think i will do), and purchase the Pro Laser II, and i get JTG with my setup, is it safe to say i would have the same results using the Laser Atlanta and LTI-Ultralyte?

I heard the Pro Laser II is basically the same thing as the Laser Atlanta...

I personally do not endorse not paying for a ebay item you bid on. However, if your question is if there is a big difference between the PL2 and PL1 yes there is. The acquisition time on the pl2 is so much better. I personally did not like the PL1 as it much much harder to get a reading in comparison to the PL2. Just my 2 cents

I think you can make the assumption that your setup will perform similarly against the LA and the PL2. The newest revision of the LA does have some software tweaks to help defeat some jammers.

Well about the ebay thing, it would be different if there were other bidders, but there weren't. Either way, it doesn't matter. I'll just approve a request to cancel the transaction and he can get his listing fees back etc... I've been ebay'ing for too many years lol.

Anymore suggestions as to which i should get? Do you think i could find another gun for <$1000?

Wait & watch. There are good deals to be had. You just have to be at the right place at the right time. So far the lowest I have seen a gen 3 lidar sell for was $225 BIN.

Only $225??!! That's awesome, definitely nothing up right now for that cheap.

Is the Pro Laser III that much better than the Pro Laser II for my purpose?

I own the Kustom Pro Laser III. I don't know how much more advanced it is than the Pro Laser 2, but it's a good gun, the menus are easy to use and it works very well.

With that said, the difference between a Pro Laser 2 and a Pro Laser 3 according to eBay is around 500-600 dollars. I paid 1200 for mine, and that was without a case, charger and a battery that was defective.

I honestly think you'd be better off with a Pro Laser 2 than a Pro Laser 1.
