I think you have a valid point there. Certainly one that I maintain we need to test extensively before we dismiss it outright.
Like I said, you want to be prepared for the most likely common scenario, which would be an officer on the side of the road, not in the middle of it. But again, you have to be prepared for those straight on shots too, rounding turns and overpasses. I think ultimately the question is exactly what degree of offset would be ideal to cover your off-axis wraparound and your centre mass.
But for levelling, level with the road is going to be ideal.
