Default what do you do when jamming? slam on brakes?

So I am getting LI installed today!!!

I typically drive 85-90 on the freeway. When your laser jams, do you slam on brakes, drop the gear, and then turn off jammer? What if to slow down, you've already arrived at cop location and jammer is still on JTG?

    thanks

really depends on the situation but letting off the accelerator in most cars is enough to get you slowed down quickly, then turn it off.

I slam my brakes, drop to PSL, and turn off my jammers.

My jammers are pprox. 12" off the ground, my car sits very low. Here where I live we don't really have any super freeway sytems so you generally get shot at close range. Slamming on the breaks for me could be disastrous as it would precipitously drop my front end. Each car is different and because of these two problems, unfortunately for me I more often than care to must JTG.

I try to drop-to-reasonable/PSL in a manner to be least noticeable as possible (i.e. from a long to mid-range engagement, I'll downshift), and after having dropped to-speed, disengage the jammer. I'll still give the brakes a tap, though, just to let the enforcer know I've seen them and that either I'm an aware driver or that they've "put the scare in me."

But yes, there are point-blank engagements (< 300 ft.), for which I've simply had no choice but to JTG at what's close to my current speed (i.e. could not "jam on the brakes," for safety concerns), and to just hope for the best, thereafter.

I haven't had a "jam encounter" yet, but I intend to slow down smoothly (no need to slam on the brakes... just drop to PSL at a controlled rate), then kill the jammer. At the speeds I typically go, it shouldn't take me more than 2-3 seconds to drop to PSL. I tend to instinctively hit the brakes when I see a cop or my countermeasures go off anyway, so I probably would have shed 5-10 mph even before my brain kicks in and I figure out what's going on.

LEOs are used to seeing the nose dive anyway, since people tend to slam on the brakes when they see a cop, even if they aren't speeding. A nose dive isn't necessarily an indication to the LEO of countermeasures present.

But then, it depends on the situation at hand, in particular, how far away you are from the LEO when you're shot. If it's a long range shot, you have plenty of time to slow down and kill the jammers. If you're shot at close to point blank range, then you almost have no choice but to JTG. I'm sure any LEO who regularly shoots at point-blank range finds that they can't always get a reading, jammer or not.

With my JTK-1, when jammed, all I have to do is brake, and as soon as I let off the brakes at PSL the jammer shuts off automatically.

Lastly, often I'll see the LEO before they shoot me, and I'll already be slowing down or have slowed down by the time they shoot.

I'm quite amazed by my reaction. I sort of go "oh there's the jammer going off" take my foot off the pedal and/or click down a couple of gears depending on what speed I'm doing and then turn off the jammers using Cheetah's key fob which I've stuck next to one of my flappy paddles on the steering column.

They use video recording together with the gun here, so they'd be able to see you reaching for something at the same time they could suddenly get a reading, if the switch was on the dash someplace.

I always thought I'd stomp the brakes screaming WTF, but no, I'm as calm as anything. Weird.

^ I'm fearful of executing drastic in-vehicle movements, too. That's why I've also placed my controls in an easy-to-reach place, so that it can be seen as a normal vehicle-control (i.e. downshifting) movement, rather than a furtive attempt.

I thought Id panic when hit also in the beginning but I didn't either. I have been hit 3 times in the past 2 years where I was well over PSL and had to shed a lot of speed without being noticed and I never once over reacted to the point of getting myself noticed or doing anything dangerous in the heat of the moment.

Its amazing what you can do when you really have to .
