What if you could get jammer alerts and radar detector alerts on your smartphone, control when the jammer automatically shuts down, kill false alarm alerts from your detector and have the alerts automatically transmit to other drivers?
Here's a project for all you budding software designers for I-phones, smartphones, etc. to create the laser jamming / radar detection system of your dreams.
Cheetah have a limited number of SMARTnodes now available. The SMARTnode is a unique harware solution that can convert laser jammer and radar detector alerts to bluetooth and transmit them to other devices alongside it's own bluetooth GPS data feed.
It works with all of the leading laser jammers, Blinder, LI, LPP, AntiLaser, etc and some of the leading radar detectors like the Valentine 1 or Bel STI Driver.
These bluetooth signals could then be used by a smartphone or Car PC, etc to not only display the radar & jammer alerts, but also control the operation of the laser jammer or radar detector, for automatic shut down at pre-selected certain speed limits, programmable jam times, false radar alarm suppression, etc.
Our own ActiveStealth Sofware is available now for doing all of this on a Windows Mobile 5 or 6 device like a PDA. It already gives jammer and radar detector alerts on a PDA, with programmable jam times as well as automatic shut down of your jammers at your selected speed limit. The full ActiveStealth User Manual is here if you want to learn more about it.
However, what's really needed is a similar software app, like ActiveStealth, for other platforms. Due to other commitments (with the new Cheetah C50, for example) this is just not something that we have the time to progress. So instead, we're proposing to open up the technology and alert codes, etc, to enable others to make if it what they will. What I'm really looking for is some software developers that are interested in working up their own applications to use these bluetooth signals on their smartphones, Iphones etc. If this sounds like your idea of heaven, please shoot me a PM for details on the technical side and the pricing for the SMARTnode and accessories.
The Cheetah hardware opens up a workd of possibilities that folks have been asking for for a long time, because it does the difficult job of converting the alerts from various different manufacturers' devices into Bluetooth and getting them into a smartphone app. Once it's there, a Trapster style app could then be used to transmit the radar and laser alerts via GPRS, to other mobile device users, effectively daisy-chaining live radar or laser alerts to other users further back down the road.
This offer is also open to individuals as well as companies, so if any of you guys are also Trapster mods or users, can you post here to help Sean understand why this might be more than a little useful to you. I'd have thought this should be right up their street but they don't seem to be too great at replying to emails or PMs.
What do you think?
