Default Antilaser; aka Laser Defender; Shift Timer 7 sec.

How many of you will not buy the Laser Defender, or will modify your laser defender when purhcased, because of the rumored 7 second jam/shift timer. I was ecstatic about this unit, until I heard about this 7 second timer. Please allow the consumer to decide when to turn the jammer off, not the programming.

If I am going to be shelling out 500 shells, I want to be in control of when the unit jams, and when it doesn't jam.

    Just my .02!

Where did you see something about a timer?

a little off topic here, but just curious about timers: how did you get the lidatek to jam constantly for the GOL tests? i know it has a 5 second timer

i wouldn't be wild about a 7 second timer, but i still think i'd flop open my wallet, providing test results are like the last GOL test

We wanted to test a regular production unit. So, we kept in radio contact with the target vehicle, they notified us when it went it stopped jamming and went into "recycle mode". When that happened, we backed up the vehicle slightly to the point where it quit jamming. After it recycled, we proceded again. We did this over and over until punchthrough.

It was a major pain, and it took careful coordination over the radio.

What was interesting though, was that many times right when the operator in the vehicle notified us that it quit jamming, we would instantly get a speed reading.

That is my big problem with the "timers". Obviously we would much rather test a production unit than one that has been "tweaked" at all by the manufacturer, and the timers make it difficult.

If it jammed during the entire 5 seconds it was JTG. After the firing stopped, the test vehicle was backed up to the position it stopped firing and then continued to drive forward once the unit recycled and it was hit with laser again. This process was repeated several times and it was a big pain in the a$$ which took all day. One run with one Laser gun was a major process. Hopefully this makes sense, if not Jimbonzzz, happya$$, Sethy, or Outrun could explain it better.

There will be NO TIMER on AL G6.5 (Laser Defender) as default.
Up on request timer could be implemented via Software upgrade.

Put me down in the Anti-timer camp. I'm glad to hear that the AL G6.5 (Laser Defender) won't have one, and that makes me more likely to buy it than a similar performing and priced unit that does have a timer. As RTS observes, I'd rather be in manual control of when it stops jamming.

I also value the test results that GOL provides a little more when they are using a stock, same as you or I could buy unit, rather than one that was changed by the maker. (even if that change was just to make their testing easier)

If "I" were a designer of one of these products, I'll put in the option to run it without a timer, with an adjustable timer, and in a detect only mode.

But what you guys dont understand is that if you continue to do long jamming times the faster you will burn the laser diode out!! this is a fact, the diodes in jammers cant handle extended jamming times so I personally think it would be better to have a timer rather than unlimited...

You have to weigh up what you want...a jammer that will last or somthing that will burn out with a shortened life span...kinda like leaving your radar detector on the dash on a 110 degree day...it aint gunna last long!

Any expert in the jamming game will agree with what I say here. I am not having a go at anyone here, just advising on the damage extended jamming can cause.

Personally, I would be OK with a 5 - 7 second timer. The last thing I want is to be noticed by a LEO, and the inability to get a speed reading within a few seconds is a very good tip-off! I would have to be going WAAAY faster than I normally drive not to be able to slow down in 5 seconds or less.
