I am new to the forum. I have a Passport 8500 x50 that I really love for long highway trips, but it essentially is a ticket detector in the city. I lived in Denver and never had a radar alert on my detector, but plenty of laser alerts after I saw the officer pointing the machine at me. I spent some time in Memphis, and found out the cops there use laser only.
Basically I am coming to find out that aside from cross country highway trips (or the rare cities that don't use laser now), detectors on their own are useless. Thus, I am looking into laser shifters. My question is, do they actually work? I don't want to drop 7 bills for Laser Interceptors, but I also don't want to spend money on Blinders or the ZR4 if the unit only protects me half the time, because the half it doesn't protect me is the time I will get a ticket! I see so many opinions and so many tests that conflict eachother I don't know what to think. A lot of it is marketing hype, sure, but I want to hear from real owners.
I have a black VW golf with no chrome (aside from a small logo in the front), so that may aid the shifters' effectiveness.
Finally (I know... lots of questions), whats up with VEIL? I have seen pictures of cars in which the coating leaves a barely perceptible "tint" on the lights, but I saw a picture of a Chevy Cobalt (on this fourm I think) with the coating that, IMO, looked awful, like someone sprayed cheap black spray-paint all over the lights! I don't want my car to look like that! Could that have been an improper application or does VEIL do that?
Thanks in advance for your patience reading all this and for any help!
