ZR4 Adequate for California? Recommendations?
I know the CHP around here generally run C/O 34.7 with their normal squad cars, but the white unmarked CHP cars that tend to hide will run LIDAR (Kustom Signals ProLaser III).
Motorcycle cops inside my city (Redwood City) also run the Prolaser III, and I never seen them shoot radar so I'm feeling a bit naked.
Right now I have a really good deal to pick up some ZR4's for only $350 new but I know the Laser Inceptor is king @ around 600. Should I save up more and go for the best or will the ZR4 be okay?
I don't plan on JTG, and I normally only speed 15 over the PSL.
And the front of my car looks like this.

I was thinking of placing the laser jammer heads directly next to where the license plate frames are into the black shiny part of the grill.

First off, CHP has an exclusive contract with LTI, so it's highly unlikely that CHP is running PLIIIs in your area. That said, I did get tagged once by a CHP cruiser shooting a Kustom Pro-Lite, so I'm not saying it's impossible.

To be honest, I don't think $350 for ZR4s is that good of a deal. If all you are up against is PLIIIs, then you might get away with ZR4s. If you run up against an Ultralyte while running ZR4s on that car, your savings as compared to LIs might go right out the window......and then some.

With those wraparound headlights, I'd personally put the sensors as wide as possible, in the lower part of the upper grille.

Re: ZR4 Adequate for California? Recommendations?
TLoF, I have experience driving in your area. I have encountered CHP in the area running Ultralytes and TruSpeeds, but never PLIIIs (although I have experience in the past with sheriffs and locals running the PLIIIs, such as the San Mateo County Sheriff's office and Foster City PD). I would choose (chose?) LIs for both my cars and would have (have had?) great results.
Also, I have been hit with I/O K-band from the RWC motorcycles on Woodside Road all the way out near the end of Seaport Blvd, but I have not experienced laser from them (thanks for the heads up!).

Re: ZR4 Adequate for California? Recommendations?
I could easily mount the heads into the grill area above my head lights, would that be adequate?
I think I'm definitely going to go for the laser interceptor.
From what I have seen the Lidar guns that they stick out the window are white/gray and look like PLIII's are there any other guns that look similar? I'm for sure that Redwood City/Belmont area motorcycles run the PLIII
My main concern is not throwing a jam code on the friendly officer doing his jobs gun...last thing I want to do is turn that friendly officer into an angry one pulling me over for jamming his gun. If I just jam, slow and turn it off I'll be okay right?

No. The plate is the most likely target. You don't want to neglect the plate. The bottom corners of the grille is where the sensors should go.

Smart move.

Those definitely sound like PLIIIs.

None of the guns you will be up against will throw jam codes. That's not a concern.

Yes. If you slow down quickly, then shut them off and let the LEO aquire your new and improved speed, you should be golden. This is a CHP encounter of mine from a couple of weeks ago.

Re: ZR4 Adequate for California? Recommendations?
Wouldn't matter if the ZR4s were free. I don't believe in their ability to ensure a reliable jam. You might get lucky, you might not. With LI and proper mounting, you should be safe.
