I'd vote for the V1 first...granted it probably won't save you from a laser encounter, it will save you from radar which is more common (in my opinion). If money is an issue I would think the blinder would be your next purchase...

And for the blinder install my evo is silver would it be a problem with the car in getting it installed?
Hey welcome to the forum, nice to see a fellow Mad Towner in the house from a WI native growing up in Green Bay I lived in Madison for 9 years while I went to UW, graduating in '94.

Well it's been a little while since I've been there, over a decade but I seem to recall hot spots were University Ave, Midvale Blvd, Regent St. and especially around the inner campus proper out through the Isthmus and out near the Arboretum. Also up and down the Belt line Hwy had a fair amount of unmarked po po, I just seem to remember.

Anyhow for a rec, I'd say go with the V1 for that type of area. To me it would seem the logical choice form what I read. Madison is a target rich environment for LEOs and if you can swing the $$ I'd have a couple of units like many here have for whatever situation will come up, SA is everything !!! I have the 9500ix but may purchase a V1 soon to play around with as it was a sentimental favorite of mine from the beginning. I also splurged and got the LI Dual as it is the very best out there and if you want the best it'll cost you and I'm also a gadget kind of guy too Anyway hope all this helps, plenty of knowledgeable peeps in here so don't be afraid to ask anything, that's what we're all about here. Good luck!

Whoa there, hold the ball.

That shouldn't be an "or" statement.

Not when combined with the need for a radar/laser detector, outright. It should be the V1 *AND* either Blinder or the LI.

That first one should never be an *or*.

Like the other hobbyists here have said, get the detector, first.

-----

And quite honestly, noodles, it looks like you just got a fast new car, and decided to jump in here, with both feet, into the deep end, without any idea at all what you're looking for.

I truly wonder if the V1 is even right for you, first off.

Take a few deep breaths, settle down with a cup of coffee and some snacks and camp out in front of your computer screen for a few hours , if not a few days , and TRULY research the detectors. Make sure that you understand what it is that you're buying into, and that its features properly fits your usage needs.

Once you've gotten the detector that fits you best, then take some additional time to research the jammer side of the equation.

It looks like you're budget limited, and you're trying to spend $400 to $700, either here OR there.

That's not the way to go about this purchase.

RESEARCH YOUR CHOICES, and make sure that first the detector is the right fit for you, and the proper first-line defense, and then settle in for the long-haul to properly figure out which jammer supplies you with the performance you need, at a price that you can afford.

BTW, you may not even "need" a top-line detector - most drivers could easily do very well with a "second-tier" detector, and save hundreds of dollars that way.

DO YOUR HOMEWORK, and figure out what your true needs are.

ty everyone for your comments.

tsi+wrx, thanks for the recommendations. Ive had this car for 3+years, and built/tuned it myself. So i am very comfortable with this car. Im not trying to get all these gadgets so i can do a gumball rally across town or anything like that. Just i want another means of being cautious.

And atm I just want a new toy for the car and deciding which one i should get first.

For the LI or blinder has any used the cheetah installs with these with success? I also plan on swapping the unit between cars.

Then definitely go with the radar detector first. You will get a lot more use out of it, because there is a lot more radar out there than lidar, by a huge amount. And there is more interaction. More to do with it. When it goes off, you have to get involved in the process of determining what the threat is, where the threat is, and even if there really is a threat at all, as opposed to a false alarm. It's a cool toy. I rarely even speed. I mostly use my detector simply for the techno-toy enjoyment.

A jammer, on the other hand, will simply get very little use, even in a place with a lot of lidar. You'll have to go looking for laser. And when you find it, you will then be tempted to use it just for the "toy" of it, which would be a big mistake. You'll either end up getting caught and ticketed, or else you'll end up just pissing off the cops, ruining things for all of us when they convince the state legislature to outlaw jammers. Jammers are a last-ditch tool (not toy) for getting you out of a serious situation. And even then, you use it ONLY long enough to slow down, then you turn it off. You don't drive up and down the street jamming cops for the fun of it, or we'll all suffer.

I go to WI about every two years but I don't recall what the LEO's use up there. I saw this posted over on another automotive (non radar) forum and thought it should be noted here.

Here in WI the State Hwy Patrol uses VASCAR III+ which is purely optical. They can get you coming opposite direction or going same way and you never know what hit you till you see the lights.

If the above is true and they primarily rely on Vascar then V1, Blinder, and LI are not going to be the correct countermeasures to use.

Sounds like to me. I have a childhood friend who has been working for the WSP since '79 and I may look him up and pick his brain on this.
