Thread: testing my zr4.

  1. #1

    Default testing my zr4.

Okay I have the zr4's on my car. I can set them off w/a t.v. remote and I can also set off my v1. but when I look thru my digital camera video screen I can't see them light up "ir reflection"... I was pretty sure when I use to do this with my original blinder mp06's or something like that... the original old school blinders. I could see them light up in my viewfinder, but that was with a camcorder. but I can't seem to see them light up thru my dig. cam. veiwfinder. w/ the zr4's....

should I be able to see them light up?
just want to make sure Im also jamming not just receiving....

I think with ZR4s you have to enable them to jam. Make sure you do whatever it takes to make them jam. Secondly your camera may have an IR filter on it. You'll have to google around to make sure it doesn't.

Well I read the owners manual. it doesn't say anything about how to activate the jammers... if I double tap the mute button, it will just put them in receive mode.

Use your camera on the remote then. If you can't see the remote's emitter LED's then the camera won't help you in testing.

all video cameras naturally block out infrared light. you have to enable your cameras night shot mode to see it. some cameras also emit ir when night shot mode is on. this will flood the receiver and make it hard for you to test the remote control.

here's what you can do. hold the camera up to a mirror. turn on night shot. if you see the ir light on the camera reflect back at you takes piece of cardboard and block it or use your hand. aim the camera at the receiver and fire your remote. should be bright as day.

    hope this helps.

oops misread your post you said digital camera.

all digital camera have a ir filter in the CCD glass. only Sony cybershot and a few others have a night shot mode. use a camcorder if possible. removing the glass to allow ir light is brain surgery. not worth the risks.

My digitial camera can see some IR. At least it can see remote controls. I think all digital digi cameras I've played with (a Samsung and a Canon) can at least IR remotes.

As takeshi suggested, point the remote at the camera to make sure it does indeed "see" some of the IR spectrum.

BTW, is your remote one of the ones that continuously fires (you push the button, and it keeps on flashing) or one of the ones that only fires it's set of pulses once. I've seen both types of remotes. If it only fires the pulses once, the ZR4 will only attempt to jam as long as it sees something to jam.
