Default Veiled Super Protector plate cover. What if?

You guys may have discussed this until you were blue in the face, but I didn't find it.

What if you bought a Super Protector plate cover from Roy, and then put a layer of veil over it.

I realize there's a decent chance that you may get pulled over the the cover alone, but I'm only interested in how it may perform. Not the problems of having to remove it.

Wouldn't this be the best case? Photo radars may have trouble reading the plate, and if you were lasered from the rear, they may have enough trouble locking on that you can bleed off some speed. Thoughts?

I have a similar question. I bought the Veil and the plate. I coated the plate with 1 coat of veil, not the rocommended 2. It is getting pretty dark already, and I am not sure if I should put on a 2nd coat or not. Anyone have some input on this?

I also painted (w/ Veil)the front headlights, and the front grill of the car. The car is a light blue. Will the Veil even help with a light blue car? I would say the color is close to the color surrounding this box that I am typing in.

    Thanks in advance. Chris

I have heard Bob say many times that it doesn't do much good to put a second coat on. One coat is just fine. Don't make your plate too dark, otherwise you'll get pulled over by a cop thinking you did something to it.

U might want to paint the entire front bumper if it is a light colour...

As for the photo radar, i think the best way is an active countermeasure.

    Default photo radar...

Actually I asked that wrong, or was thinking about it wrong. I agree that having a radar detector is the best warning for photo laser. I guess what I'm thinking about are the cameras that photo your license plate when you run a red light.

I'm not condoning running a traffic light at all, but there are times when a plate like that would be great. Like, I know there's been at least 1 good time when I was making a left turn through an intersection with a lot of traffic (and 2 lanes) turning left. As I was making the turn through the intersection, the traffic abruptly stopped, and the traffic light went to yellow and red while I was in the clogged up intersection (along with several other cars). I would have to believe those 'red-light' cameras would have racked up the tickets in that case (that intersection was not equipped with the cameras). I would want the super-protector for that kind of circumstance. I'm starting to see the cameras being placed in intersections near me, and know that the use of the camera is only awaiting legislative action (to get the 'go-ahead' to operate the cameras).

My question is, if the super-protector is covered with Veil, would the two products work OK together? Or are they more mutually exclusive? Would the Veil mess-up the reflective characteristics of the protector?

I don't think it would. Have you seen Ontrack's "total eclipse?" It's a super protector built into a laser shield. The total eclipse doesn't seem to bend light as well when it's not shiny. My best guess is it won't work :-( I hope bob can confirm or deny this for us.

    Chris,

I think you are spot on here.

I haven't tested it but I think their functions would conflict.

One super reflects (not good for laser/light) and the other function absorbs.

This almost feels like trying to drive in the snow with Max performance summer tire!

Perhaps one day we can examine this in the real world.

    Default thanks...

Yeah, you know guys, I'm no expert on these issues. This seems like something really good to test. I realize that even if you veil a protector cover, that the cops can still laser a different area of the rear of the car. My thoughts are that I think they (the cops) likely go for the plate first. And in doing so the just might trigger my V1, and get no reading from the plate. Hopefully I could drain off some speed before they aquire a new position on the car and possible thwart the attack.

I think the Veil would do its job. But would the Veil compromise the light deflection of the cover/deflector. To the human eye I think the cover/deflector may still deflect. But what would it do versus a traffic camera? Sounds like a test for the Veil guy.

I think there could be a market advantage (for Veil and the cover) if it were shown they both worked as advertised when combined. Because, personally, I would buy a can of veil (for the front end), buy a cover for the rear and veil that cover, before I would spend the money on blinders for the rear. In my area, I don't see much laser at all. If I do see it, I would bet mainly I'll get targetted from the front. But I would still want my a$$ covered.

I have also been thinking about this idea. It would be great if someone with a plate and a gun could test this.

We have been exploring this for some time now and there are a number of technical challenges to overcome - think winter tire versus summer tire - each does a fundamentally different thing.

We'll post an announcement when we are satisfied that we have thoroughly worked out a solution that meets our demanding standards.

Our company intends a number of subsequent product offerings each unique in their function. We are deliberately taking our time, however, as we don't want to confuse the marketplace with too many products at once and are working hard to establish VEIL as high-end and novel solution provider to nagging traffic-related challenges that we all face as the motoring public.

It took us a long amount of time to overcome the challenges to developing a truly effective laser-countermeasure solution and we chose to take our time to get it right, the "first" time [this included independent test verification from SML prior to the first public release] as opposed to quickly getting a substandard and/or not fully field tested product to the market just to make a "quick-buck." In otherwords, we are in for the long-haul.

    Most good things, take time...
