Default Opinion needed: Veil alone on a 300C

    http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...-300C-SRT8.jpg

I've got a black 300C with almost the same front fascia as that one on wikipedia, except the RVM are silvery reflective chrome too. Do you guys think it's at all useful to just put VEIL on the car (i.e. headlights and foglights)? I'm betting that the chrome (read: silvery plastic) on the grill will screw my chances at passive LIDAR signature reduction no matter what I do to the headlights.

    It's better than nothing.

But given the vehicle profile, overall, I'm far from optimistic. Remember, about a year back, there were several posts on the Blinder Forums, of various 300 owners who complained that, upon quantitative testing, even a M45 (then, the J11 variant) saw unacceptable PT distances.

Also, remember it's not just the fact that you have"chrome" trim.

Give The VEIL Guy's IR-video series, as well as the discussion thread below a good read:

    http://www.radardetector.net/forums/...r-veil-g4.html

    - as you can see, there were areas where we were all surprised.

    BTW, nice ride!

Thanks for the info. Do you have any more info on the M45 PT distances? I've been considering an active LIDAR countermeasure setup too, but right now in my area laser simply isn't used enough to justify spending the 400-800 on such a setup. Of course, of all the cars we own this is the most at-risk for tickets. I tell ya just resting a foot on the gas pedal slowly creeps the thing up into the high 80's and low 90's.

EDIT: Good point on the IR signature vs visible signature -- I would not at all be surprised if the "black" coat actually does generate a good IR signature, too.

^ The SRT is a monster. I honestly would've gone that route, had I been allowed, when I got Winky. The wifey still balks at my cresting the $30K threshold. I honestly don't know what's passing through her mind, when I asked about the Cayenne, and she said "maybe."

    And oops....my mistake!

It's the M40 that got bad results:

    http://www.radardetector.net/forums/...s-my-300c.html

^ There were a couple of other posts like this one, but I can't remember....

Looks like the M25 did decently well:

    My sincere apologies!

Hmm, I'm really ignorant when it comes to laser jammers. What is the difference between the M25 vs the M40/M45?

I wouldn't be surprised if the SRT with the bentley grille would be screwed no matter what you did on it though, that looks like a bigger cross-sectional area than a semi truck!

^+1 on that profile. That's an ugly one (to protect).

I really find myself in a very funny place - being a car-nut as well as a countermeasures hobbyist.

I often look at cars, and admire their aesthetics....and then immediately think "oh boy, that's gonna be impossible to protect!"

    With regard to the jammers:

    The 0-suffix variants (M20, 30, 40) are defunct, and were replaced by the 5-suffix variants (M25, 35, 45).

The first number, the "2" of the "25" or "3" of the "35," etc., denotes how many heads are with that particular "kit."

    M25 has two heads.

    M45 has four.

Currently, you're going to be on the J16 revision of the Blinder M25, 35, or 45.

Yeah, I know how you feel -- I toyed with the idea of putting the mesh grille on my 300 -- I think it looks great. But then I thought about it a bit more and couldn't live with the fact that it just screams to cops "SHOOT WHEREVER YOU WANT, EVEN FROM 3000 FEET!"

    Thanks for that info.

Man am I glad I don't have to get approval on stuff!! I just may go get another Vette cause I can!!!

On the thread topic I doubt the Veil will do a lot of good without jammers, but it's better than nothing. The split second extra it gives you might be enough to keep you out of trouble.

I keep telling my wife that if she died, I'd put $540K of the insurance payout towards the Brabus Bullit.

I still whisper to my little girl, during our pre-bedtime daddy & daughter snuggle time, that she really wants to fly jets for a living, and should go to the Naval Academy.

    Tuition FTL.

    +1 to both thoughts.
