Hi all, new to the forum. I lurked a bit before joining but, I just want to say it's good to be here. It's great to hear your experience and wisdom. We can all learn from each other. Now, on to the Veil, and results. Let me preface this by saying that although I have read many posts on how to apply veil and, stealth in general, I'm sure I made some mistakes. I went 3 coats on the headlights and foglights. I know, Veil Guy, I'm sure that's overkill. I'm the kind of guy that gives the screw one more turn and then strips it! The application is far from perfect cosmetically. Up close you can see small stripes of sag lines. This really occured on the second and third coats. On the first coat you really couldn't see anything like that. I did the grill chrome (3 coats). Hood emblem (super dark). I just coated the silver painted platic air spliting trim piece in the lower grill. I did this because I realize it was a "hot spot" I'd missed. I have made sure that all the frontal area of car including bumper and appx. 4 inches of the leading part of my hood and fenders are dull and hazed (I did this without damaging the paint, I think) I know your not supposed to use viel on the paint primairly due to the expense but...I took the widest foam brush and patted all the afore mentioned areas. I then took a microfiber towel and went over the same areas again patting. I have a coat of Maguairs NXT tec wax underneath and experimented with removal on a small section before proceeding. I have a laser shield with one coat of G4 on the outside. Plate screws have been painted black. Black fine point marker insided of the screw heads after affixing them to cover any marring. My car is a dark metalic blue. Would have gotten black if I knew better at the time.
The tests were conducted with the LTI Ultralight LRB with a starting range of 2000 ft. 3 base runs without any counter measures and a retro reflective front plate was affixed. Instantanious speed and distance readings at 2000 ft were obtained. Aproximately 5 runs were conducted with the above mentioned modifications without the additional viel application, and hazing of the the paint. Shooter at the right shoulder, three lane highway. Right lane produced speed and distance readings: 1) 634 2)889 3)850 4)1108 5)922
Next day after veil applied to the frontal areas as described above same set of circumstances: 1) 699 2)832 3)825 4)799 5)804
I have treated that silver painted trim piece as stated above and will conduct one more series of tests to see if that's making any kind of diffence. It may be, since the experienced shooter said he had his best luck when concentrating the laser on the lower portion of the grill.
The next step is a Bra. I wanted to avoid it but, I think I am stealth obsessed now! Given what you guys have learned, do you think a bra would make any real differnce in the numbers? Yes, I will get a jammer eventually, but right now i am enjoying these experiments.
Thank You Veil Guy for your passion and excellent product. It may not have produced JTG ,so far, for me, but I think over 50% reduction is range in nothing short of highly impressive!
