Default To veil or not to veil -- till i paint my grill black as well

MY car does not have a front lic plate, however it does have a stock, shiny grill with shiny logo on the center. I have been meaning to have this grill & emblem painted matte black and will also Veil my headlights.

Question: Going on a road trip next week. Was thinking to Veil my headlights before this trip. However, should I even bother if i am not painting my grill just yet? I figure the LIDAR shots start out on the center mass of the car anyway so the logo/grill will let the LEO get a reading.

What your take? Should I spend the time now, and Veil. Or would it not help till the grill is painted as well?

    Appreciate any input!

Do you have a jammer yet? Without a jammer, Veil is pointless.

ahh... ouch. guess its been awhiiile since i been on here. At last check, i thought Veil would at least give me a little extra time to slow down when used with a RD.

I have a STI Driver mounted kinda low. Then again, if shot from far enough away i guess it wouldn't matter anyway.

I have an Infiniti G37. Yea, seems i need to pony up and get the LI. I'm in the same boat as you though... delayed!

Just got married and a new home... priorty shifts hit me hard! lol

Gonna just apply the Veil to a friends car with a Saab Turbo-X whose more suited for it.

    Congrats, man!

Yeah, the whole "a little time" theory just doesn't pan out in reality. It's not about time. It's about distance. And Veil alone won't give you that distance. We get 1000 foot lock all day long on small black cars with Veil and a ZR4 jammer.

Veil is a great product, but it's an adjunct, not a stand-alone countermeasure. And with an LI, it's not usually even necessary. It certainly doesn't hurt though!

    Ahujadaddy - Congrats!

As for the VEIL'ing, if you've already got the bottle just sitting around, my question would be a simple one: "why not?"

Any protection is better than none, and even though I would not expect "JTG" performance with VEIL alone, I'd still say that it's far from being useless.

As for your grill, don't worry about that just yet - although chromed trim items, including the large front grill of many vehicles (yours included), can be said to be an additional point-weakness, it is not necessarily as bad as it may seem, and often, it is other areas that truly "flare" to IR (see VEIL Guy's IR-video series - look how complex curvatures of a vehicle's body can "flare"). Work on other the other aspects of your protective layering (i.e. active and passive), first, before starting to chase after these other details.

X2 if you have it already put in on, it can't hurt. Just don't go feeling invincible, you're not, but it might buy you a second to scrub off some speed, and it might not. It's a crap shoot at best.

    Ahujadaddy,

Ouch is right. Despite some inflated opinions (mostly from what appears to be LI owners) to the contrary, Veil is not useless alone in the real-world.

My suggestion would be to get your opinions from owners who actually use Veil in their daily driving as opposed to some little test course, owners like Vic, TSi+WRX, Happya$$ and others. These guys have far more experiences with Veil and a true appreciation for the capabilities and limitations of my company's product.

In fact Happya$$ just made a video of what he believed was a JTG encounter with Veil only against an OST's Kustom Pro III.

To actually answer your original question that you asked, grill work may not be as detrimental to you as you may initially believe. It all depends on the nature of the pattern and the angles and edges. That varies from car to car. Veiling the headligts, though can't hurt as it will take away one of the primary aiming points. Your front plate is an issue, and if left untreated or unprotected, Veil on the headlights alone won't do much for you. A lasershield should do the trick in that instance.

    Have a safe trip.
