It definitely can decrease the brightness of your lights, but if done right it shouldn't be bad.

They look less "sharp" since the light is diffused more but overall there isn't much of a reduction in light. Also depends a lot on how much u use, as far as i can tell some ppl use way more than necessary. On the other hand if u use more it's easier to get it to look smooth.
