Default **VIRGINIA - APPROVED RADAR/LASER DEVICES CHANGED!!!**

I should have caught this sooner, I guess I was slacking a little.

As of December 21st, 2005 the following radar and laser devices on the list below are approved for use by Virginia law enforcement:

    http://www.iacp.org/profassist/lidarcpl.pdf
    http://www.iacp.org/profassist/Down-the-RoadCPL.pdf

Here are the Virginia documents showing the change:

    http://www.eva.state.va.us/dps/download/radar02.pdf
    http://www.eva.state.va.us/dps/download/lidar01.pdf

Virginia's Department of General Services Division of Purchases and Supply changed the approved devices to ALL devices approved by the IACP! That means X band radar guns and Laser Atlanta Speed Laser are now approved for use in VA when they weren't before!!

Code of VA for that department's authority: http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp...0+cod+46.2-882
    http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp...0+cod+2.2-1112

I doubt any departments will go out and purchase X band radar guns, but I bet we might see some Laser Atlanta at some point.

You never know. Some podunk towns may be interested in picking up a K-55 (X band) for cheap. They can raise a lot of revenue at a low cost. Wonder how STi does on X band. The element of surpise is attractive to traffic enforcement. What would be more surprising than bringing back X band.

If I were an LEO reading these forums, I would be begging for an X band radar unit. I would be able to nail all the RD users that have disabled their X band.

I doubt we will see any X band, but you never know for sure. I would guess that I am 99% certain there will be no X band in VA.

From what I've heard most local departments order equipment with the state police and I highly doubt the state police will get X band guns. But there is a very very small chance.

Yes, it is a small chance. That makes the element of surprise greater for the few departments that go with X band. If a lot of departments did it, there would be no element of surprise, at least for long.

Of course the authorities may believe there are practically no RDs in VA so there is no need to surprise them with X band. After all they're illegal!

As long as they don't read this board, we will be ok!

I doubt many of the county pd's will change. I know FFX CO only uses Kustom radar and laser guns.

Yep. They hardly even use radar anymore. Mostly Laser and they like pacing too.

    Default x band

X band, the frequency of surprise by some police departments. I noticed an X band speed sign on the other side of town from me. To my surprise the V1 wasn't going off because I had x turned off. Went through the programming modes and turned x back on and picked up that sign without a problem. X2 to you GTO!
