Two marked units were working independently on the southbound lanes of 225 south of 610. They appeared to be shooting Lidar with a Pro Laser product on the backside of an overpass. I was heading northbound so I only caught a quick glimpse of the gray handheld unit with two distinct lenses at the front. I estimate they’re shooting range to have been around 300 ft as cars crested the overpass.
Then one of HPD’s regular downtown LEO's was set up in a notorious speed trap on I45 downtown elevated exit as it crosses Dowling street. Previously I've only encountered IO K there so with traffic I usually get sufficient warning to slow down before the drop down to street level. Lots of brake lights tipped me off which was a good thing because Officer Green was using what appeared to be the same Pro Laser product. Range from the dropoff to the gun I estimate to be around 500-700 ft.
BTW these are the same units I was hit with back in August and prompted me to upgrade to the ZR3. However, both these traps would have been too close for my jammer to have been effective. I’ve been ecountering more close quarters lidar use in town but this was the first case low range shooting I’ve seen on the freeway.
If I upgrade to the 9500i or go with the V1 I think I may pull the ZR3 and replace it with the M40.
