Default Laser from the rear yet again!

I just got tagged Friday w/ laser being used from the rear. It was a Wyoming LEO sitting on the N-bound on ramp for 1-31 at 54th street. Time of day, mid day.

Straight to the rear. Glad I saw him though. Sneaky LEO.

I spent 30 mins today shooting lidar thru windshield on the interstate. Front license plates required by law in WA but not rigorously enforced. I could see over the median, so I could shoot traffic going either direction.

    Oncoming traffic: targetting range 700'-1100'
Very easy to get speed lock shooting plates - typically within 1 sec for 900'+, quicker at 700'
Not easy to get speed lock shooting headlights - required tracking target - if speed lock acquired it took about 2-5 secs
Not easy to get speed lock shooting center w/o plates

Same lane traffic: targetting range 300'-900'
Very easy shooting plate - typically within 0.5 sec all distances
Very easy shooting taillights - typically within 0.5 sec all distances

Lets hope this thing doesn't become SOP.

Thanks Proud, I will have to change this in my google Laser Mapping.

LOL BTW, I'M looking at the traffic cameras right now for St. Louis and just saw a LEO with someone pulled over. They are out here today for sure!

They can. Just that speed lock time can take a little longer. Radar bounces back from metal, lidar/light from anything. So glass, rain, mist, fog, snow, etc causes reflections that the gun has to discard and hence more pulses are required. How much longer depends on amount of these 'noise reflections'.

Open window from cruiser is often best and preferred. Point is, there's nothing that says they can't do so.
