Default Trapster Speed Trap Sharing System for mobile phones!

Trapster is a system that works on mobile phones. If you have a phone that can run the Trapster application, you're golden. If your phone has GPS, even better, as you can get alerts when you approach reported trap locations. Even if your phone isn't that capable, you can still report traps via a toll-free number and receive SMS alerts to traps.

    Check it out here: Trapster
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

I was just reading about this on The Boston Globe's online site. I see a couple of issues with this. One, police can foil it by driving around pressing #1 multiple times. The system would become so flawed that no one would use it. Two, how long before some state legislature uses this as an excuse to track drivers by GPS or cell phone and send you a ticket in the mail? That day is not far off, I fear. GPS and cell phones are two-edged swords in that respect. There have already been successful prosecutions based on Black Box data from a car. Soon they'll be requesting tracking data from cell phones to see if you were speeding prior to an accident.

Sounds like a form of DoS.

That's why I'd put in a deal that would be stated each time the number is called etc. saying that anyone abusing the system to input false reports could face legal actions taken against them. Of course I'm not lawyer but hey would help I think.

    Edit: I need more coffee!

Hi, Pete (owner of Trapster(R) ) here

    >> a couple of issues with this. One, police can foil it by driving around pressing #1 multiple times

Yes, that's an issue with any user generated content site. Of course someone could enter false info. Not likely the police. They are way too busy and the ones interviewed by various TV shows actually seem to think the system will help them.

But users can also "un-vote", and there's a user rating system.

If someone puts one in by accident, no biggie - but what you are talking about would be intentional interference with business. You don't have to put a sign on a gun shop that says "it is illegal to burn down this shop even if you don't agree that handguns should be legal".

this now works with my gps, but it's poorly implemented sadly so it's 98.5% useless, hopefully you guys can improve upon it for dash if you truely do work for trapster

We are well aware of the limitations. As Dash adds capabilities to the API we will implement them.

But it's still the only GPS that can provide real time trap data, ... so for speed traps you made the right choice with the Dash Express!

One thing I do - I've been using the Dash myself (obviously) for a few weeks. I use the Trapster(R) SMS alerts to notify me of real time trap reports in my area on my mobile, and then punch the search button on the Dash to see specifically where they were reported.

I have used it a lot any time I see a cop running laser are radar. Within the last few week calling in a trap works 100% better than before. I was told it would get better from the owner and it has. It will even take the trap if you say they are shotting laser at the trap? I'm I right with what I said runaway?

What if you do not have GPS in your phone and cannot download it? Is there another method? I signed up and placed some traps, will it send people texts when they get near it? Will they read the comments too on their cell? I visited the site, but I am not sure if I can use the program, it looks really cool tho.
