I’m sure all of you that live in the Knoxville, TN area know this already, but the Knoxville City Police Dept is very active on I-40, I-640, and also somewhat on I-75. Traveling this past week, I came up I-40N to I-640W and to I-75N. Here is what I noticed (this was on a Tuesday, about noon):
There was a black Dodge Charger, unmarked with dark tint, parked on the right hand shoulder of I-40W, shortly before exit 398 (Strawberry Plains Parkway.) I cannot confirm that it was a LEO, but I strongly suspect.
Between miles 398 and 400 (I-40E/W), there was a light blue Crown Vic, unmarked with tint on the back windows, in the median (dirt track, obviously well used) parked parallel to traffic.
Also between the 398 and 400 mile markers, there was a marked Knoxville City unit that had a customer on the right hand shoulder.
Also watch I-75N/S all the way to the end of the Knoxville City limits. I saw a marked unit come out of some type of hiding place on the southbound side (I was going northbound.) It was well after getting on I-75N from I-640W; not sure of the exact mile marker.
When I came home on Sunday, I did not see any unmarked units in the Knoxville area (which leads me to believe that the unmarked units, presumably traffic units, do not work day shift hours on the weekend, but anyways…) I did, however, see a Knoxville City marked unit with a customer shortly after exiting onto I-640E from I-75S.
I also saw a marked Knoxville City unit parked off in the grass near the Washington Pike exit monitoring I-640W traffic. I could see him fine coming eastbound, but the folks going westbound definitely would come up on him too late.
