Wow it appears they can't run with radar on, looks as if they can only run instant on or laser!

How do you figure? I'd say it's an equal mix of officers that use instant-on vs. constant-on. Just depends on the area.Originally Posted by StlouisX50
If you read the police rules that jimbonzzz posted they are limited to using their radar trigger pulled. No microwave rf can be shot when the finger is let go of the gun.

This is to keep someone from frying the crown jewelsHand-held radar devices shall only transmit electromagnetic energy when a finger-operated trigger
is pulled. When this trigger is released, the hand-held device shall cease to transmit electromagnetic
energy; i.e., return to the RF-standby mode. No mechanism shall exist to lock the trigger in the
transmit mode.
handheld devices, yes. This is because officers used to leave the handheld devices on and set them in their lap, and then wondering why they couldn't have children.
If the radar transmitter is hard mounted in the car, then they could run constant-on, which many do.

The ProLaser III contract price is dirt cheap. Normally those are sold for at least $3000.00 and I've seen them even up to $3,700.00. I bet those were corded models....not that anyone cares :-)

looking it back over, it only covers the Michigan State Police, not cities. Does that mean cities could be using X band still? I know they say only Ohio and New Jersey use it, but what's to keep some backwater police department from using it?
