Hi hppck21,
Police radar units are commonly called either radar guns or speed guns. There are three radar bands which are used by various models of radar guns. These bands, in the order of when they were first approved by the FCC, are:
X band
K band
Ka band
X band is rarely used anymore except in New Jersey.
K band is still in widespread use, especially in more rural areas.
Ka band is now the most popular radar band. Ka band also can be broken down into three basic frequencies which are used by the various Ka radar gun models. These frequencies are:
33.8 Ka
34.7 Ka
35.5 Ka
There are some threads here on the forum which detail what radar bands and frequencies are used in various locales throughout the US. These threads have been turned into stickies so that they show up at the top of the appropriate subcategory on this forum.
MPH Industries 33.8 Ka
Stalker Radar 34.7 Ka
Kustom Radar, Decatur Radar 35.5 Ka
Pretty much everyone makes a K band gun.
You can go to the respective manufacturer's websites

read through the stickies, all the answers to your questions are there.
I still think Ka frequencies are the only ones of real interest. And even then probably only to enthusiast. I mean, if you see Ka you need to be at the PSL asap or else.
