    Default Pa-Radar Gun Cliberation

Looking for info on when do radar guns that the PSP use have to be calibrated.

What must they do before they use them each day?

Every 60 days they need to be calibrated per PA state law, I believe.

The troopers are also supposed conduct the internal test AND test with tuning forks before and after periods of enforcement.

Do they have to fill out paperwork on that?

Even if they did, I'm sure they will BS whatever they need to...they're cops.

PA is required to test and have a certificate of the testing from a state approved testing station every 60 days.

PSP are NOT required to do field tests of their units. All that is required is the 60 day calibration and testing mentioned above. The PSP reccommends that their officers do the tests, but an officer is not required to do so. It has been established in case law that a radar reading is valid as long as the 60 day calibration requirement is met. A field test can solidify an officer's testimony, but the officer's failure to perform the field checks cannot be used to motion for a dismissal.
