Default Will be traveling thru NH-MA-CT-NY-NJ next month...

Next month we'll be taking our bi-annual trek to NJ for Thanksgiving. In the past, I've relied solely on my trusty V1 on this trip, but now with POP and the fact that I also have a X50, I would like to determine which detector/mode is best to use in each state.

Usually the route we take is:

NH to NJ: Route 3 to Mass Pike into/near Albany, then hit the NY Thruway to I-87 (I think) to the Garden State Parkway.

NJ to NH: GSP to I-287 thru NY to I-84 in CT to Mass Pike to Route 3 back into NH.

Since my V1 is not currently POP capable, I figured on using my detectors as follows:

    NH: V1 in L mode
    MA: V1 in A mode
CT: X50 with POP on, highway mode
NY: X50 with POP on, highway mode
    NJ: V1 in A mode

Does this sound like a smart way to go? In CT and NY, am I more likely to encounter POP, or laser? I need to weigh between V1's superior laser detection against POP detection on the X50.

I hope to apply Veil and a Laser Shield to the front of my car before the trip as well.

    Any suggestions?

He's not kidding. They use a lot of instant Ka and when they're not doing that it's laser. The other thing is is that the area around the 87/90 interchange is the most heavily patrolled pavement in the region. NYSP has been proven to use POP so who knows, we might see that too some day.

What are the chances of seeing POP in CT and NY, compared to laser? Are all their guns POP capable, or only a few?

Would I be safer running the X50 in these two states, with POP detection, or my V1, without POP but with its legendary sensitivity to laser?

If VR would get the bugs worked out of their POP firmware it would be a no-brainer...

How about NJ, on the GSP? I heard they have some MPH guns too. Anyone seen POP in NJ, or do they still like to use X band?

with its legendary sensitivity to laser?
Got a laser ticket in June 2005 , 87 n/b , Lti , no alarm from V-1 , perhaps placed too low on dash and wiper blocked the ray ? near north Albany , clocked @ 1040 feet .Leo told me : have radar and laser in the cruiser.

My advice : do not go over 15% of posted ,

Also in use , moving radar hitting in your BACK : their favorite scenario , at A v-1 deals well with it . I always use A.

I think you are far more likely to run into laser no matter where you are. And yes, I can also confirm that NYSP LOVES to run moving radar and sneak up from behind. See it all the time.
