thats not good then. I got a ticket back in I think 1995 for 88 in a 65, paid the fine and never thought anything of it after that till this past week when I read that lawyers website about reckless driving in VA and wondered if it has affected me.

can someone give me a date that this law was signed into law?

is there a way to find out if I was charged with a misdemeanor?

I believe it was late 90's. They do not have to cite you for reckless at over 20 but they can. If your ticket did not say reckless then you should be OK.

ok that makes me feel better.

it was years ago but I do not remember it saying reckless driving just speeding 88 in a 65. there was no fine on the ticket, it was a must appear ticket. they said sincee I was out of state I didn't have to show and they would asign a fine on the court date. I called the court the day of the trial and was given a fine of $167.00 and 60 days suspended in VA. it was never reported to my state and never suspended in my home state (I will not go into details of how I know but I know for sure)

Exceeding the speed limit by 20 miles per hour, or operating in excess of 80 miles per hour, has been defined as reckless driving in Virginia since at least 1987.

The reckless driving statute was amended in 1992, and was last amended in 2006.

Va. Code Ann. Section 46.2-862 (West 2009).

I understand the reckless driving 20 over and 80 mph rule but what year did it become a Misdemeanor? which amendment, 1992 or 2006? I hope not 1992

obviously you didn't read the whole thread I got a ticket back in the 90's for speeding 88 in a 65, I just want to know if I have a misdemeanor on my record that is all.

so all I need to know is when was the Misdemeanor revision added?
