    Default GSP getting furloughed

GSP are starting next week every two week they have to take 3 days off of work because of a cost saving move by governor Sunny Purdue. Less cops on the road to write us tickets for speeding and less revenue for them. Better for all GA driver for now insurance will less like stay where it is because they wont be out there as much to write u those tickets. The state has done everyone a hug favor. Its about time they do something right. What do yall think about this.

Well, the GSP has already been stretched thin because of their low(er) pay compared to other departments in the state. This has been an issue for the better part of a decade.

At the same time, the GSP is probably one of the more leinient departments in GA when it comes to speeding tickets. You've usually got to be doing 20+ over the PSL to get a ticket from them, mainly because they don't have the manpower to go after every driver on the road doing 10-15 over.

These guys do help keep everyone safe on the roads, and every one of them I've met has usually (there's always an exception) been a pretty good guy. Personally, there's alot more Perdue could have cut out of the budget before having to resort to furloughing State employees.

I used to live in GA and rarely even saw a GSP. Maybe they don't have many anyway? Now county and city were another matter all together. GA, like other stats probably has restrictions on how traffic enforcement fine money can be used so it may not be cost effective to keep the fines up. Many jurisdictions require money from traffic fines be used for traffic safey related programs only.

When you do encounter GSP, you usually have to circle back around to find out where they were. I get hit with laser all the time by GSP on 316 going towards Athens, and it is always by a Trooper who has great concealment.

I hardly ever run across GSP, which is fine by me. I disagree with them being furloughed though. There's enough free crap we give away that could be cut out without taking law enforcement off the streets.

I will tell you that there's no way I'm going to let one of them pay for their lunch or dinner if I'm in a restaurant with one while this crap is going on. It's total BS and a play on taxpayers emotions. They know the 2 things we don't want to see is police a firemen laid off, so that's what the politicians try first hoping we will approve a tax hike so they can continue their free spending ways.

BS, I'll shoot my own criminals if you don't want to arrest them!! If you call for the police and the dispatcher says it will be a while they are all busy, just tell them you are armed and you will go check it out yourself. You will be shocked how fast they arrive on scene!!

I wish they could furlough the Arcade PD ... one of the worst speed traps in the country.
