Weird radar van in Utah I-80

On my journey east on I-80 in Utah today, I encountered a Ka alert which ended up coming from some van which appeared to be for traffic monitoring and not enforcement. Perhaps a way of determining speed in that area. Never saw one before....

Could be. Is that an 80 MPH zone? I know they have been doing a study North of Beaver on the I-15 where they raised the speed limit to 80 MPH.

I see you frequent Orem, Utah and Santa Cruz, CA. Talk about opposite ends of the spectrum! I have a very good friend that lives in the Santa Cruz area.

I hope not, performing a traffic study with Ka radar is fail. Unless of course their goal is to run a study that proves nobody speeds there so the PSL is just fine...

Yeah, love Santa Cruz (where I own a home) but work in Utah. Temporary situation, we hope.....

No, this was I-80 just east of the salt flats. I detected him a few miles away, so slowed down way before I saw him. It could also be that he was some sort of spotter for LEOs farther down the road, but I doubt that as I saw none...
