Anybody who travels in northern NY between Governeur and Canton (Yeah way up north!), can tell you of a very nice LONG driveway that the troopers like to sit in around Richville. I'd never seen anything like that before I went to school up there, and since. It's just amazing the places that NYS troopers will sit in.

Honest question: do the police have to ask to sit on private property? Do they have to leave if you tell them to?

If they asked me, I couldn't respond with anything other than "absolutely not" and a dirty look. Opening my mouth after that would just get me in trouble.

They have actually been sitting there for as long as I can remember, since the 80s.

My first real detection on a radar detector was in Richville. I remember buying it at Radio Shack in Malone .

Unfortunately, we don't get breaks on traffic offenses here in the city. No plea bargains or DA to chat with before you're hearing. You're either guilty or not guilty and it's nothing more than a kangaroo court system designed to push as many customers through as quickly as possible.[/QUOTE]

Making stuff up. I just got a ticket for 80 in a 55 on the LIE. I faxed in my not guilty plea and they mailed me plea for "improper right turn" all i had to do was sign it and fax it in. I didnt even need to talk to anyone. This was the reason I joined this forum and got a radar detector recently. I also got a parking ticket and all you have to do is click not guilty online and the next screen offers you a half price reduction in fee. Maybe you didnt get an offer because you have a bad record.

I also have a house in Suffolk and brother in Nassau. You cant just park on someones driveway without the owners permission. Even cops have to listen to the law. Imagine walking outside to a cop sitting in your driveway lol. come on. My brothers a cop and father is retired i will see what they say later. BUT! my ex girlfriends father is a state trooper in seneca falls NY and he use to sit in his own driveway. Still its his own.

I think they do because it is private property. Same with a business. You would be crazy to not let them. Say no and they just might remember your vehicle and face. Say yes and they just remember your vehicle and face. 50/50 They are just doing their job, keeping speeds down in residential areas.

There was a thread about this not too long ago on the LEO forums. Apparently, at least in most states, they can park on private property for speed enforcement. They do, however, have to leave the property if asked.

I can't, in good conscience, facilitate them screwing others as I have been screwed.
