Default Anyone in northern NJ? Here are a few of my findings.

Northern NJ, just got my X50 and I can confirm the following already known bands: X (state cops, large SUV vehicles), K (crown vic. marked local cops), Airborn VASCAR (not seen in use yet but the signs along with highway markings are clearly visible).

Also local redlight cameras are going up in certain towns. Some tied to those black rubber strips in the road perhaps for testing because I see them only on occasion.

Also on I-80 in morris county, unmarked black (04) impalas... hard to distinguish from other cars. (State police? They are usually getting out of the car and look pretty sharp not like local cops) Havent gotten a radar going past them yet so they might be using laser, instant on, or pacing so who knows.

    Anyone else?

91 Dark Blue Honda Accord EX, Blue X50 mounted center of windshield just above top of wipers, and with a clear view out the back just over my 3rd brake light. I keep it in "Pilot.H" and "Expert Meter" and dim appropriately to reduce visibility.

edit: Also, I've seen either POP-K (or Instant on K giving a false POP) on I-80 west. Nearly scared me half to death... "POP"!!! then a steady "K,".... then a few seconds later "POP" "K|".

Here's a pretty good general rule for NJ:
State police use only X and laser. These are the only police you're likely to see on the Garden State Parkway or the New Jersey Turnpike.

Local police have and use all kinds of radar and laser (laser is still very uncommon with locals, however). Patrols on roads other than the Parkway or Turnpike could be either local or state.

I also have the X50. I've been lasered in NJ exactly twice in 2005. Once in January by a state trooper around 6am (very dark and very cold - didn't think they'd bother with laser then, but I was wrong!) who was sitting in the driveway to the maintenance depot across from exit 155P on the GSP Northbound. 2nd time was just two weeks ago by a state trooper again, also GSP Northbond, just past the crest in that long stretch between 155 and 156. That was a pretty big operation - daylight, nice weather, several police cars visible, one car pulled over. I was closely following another vehicle (3 car lengths?) each time, so when my detector went off I don't know if it was me or the car in front of me being lasered.

NJSP have also resurrected an old '70's tactic of dumping junker police cars on medians across the state. It's kind of a dead giveaway when the police cruiser is piled up with a foot of snow.

But you can respect this because this shows you that they are indeed trying to control speeders and not make money of it.

As the Veil Guy stated in his detector review NJ uses X band radar (K55 by MPH like the one Jim is selling). They use low power and instant on modes

I've been looking for a good LT1 motor... I could stand for only 260hp if the cost is what I think it is

I can confirm the use of Airborn VASCAR, it was a clear sunny day out and I was only doing about 90 on I-80 passing some tractor-trailers when I thought to myself "hey, I wonder" and looked up. Ahahaha... I slowed wayyyy down and got in the right lane.

(Near exit 30, but before the rockaway exit, I'll give a mile marker next time I pass it).

    65, lol.

I heard a rumor that they use VASCAR via Ez-Pass (if you arrive from one toll to another too quickly you get a speeding ticket) is that true? And what is the speed threshold for that?

seems that Veil Guy knows all about the EZPASS system:

PA, like many other surrounding states have been using EZ Pass at the toll entrances.

I know of someone [I won't say who, though ] that made it from the Poconos to Lansdale exit in just over 22 minutes - a trip that normally takes about 65 minutes - in the wee hours of the morning (you can do the math.)

Getting off at the turnpike entrance and going through the EZ Pass toll he realized that the system time/date stamps the entry and exit to and from the turnpike.

Oops. The system clock must be wrong!

The Guy never heard anything, though. Thanks Edward. ops:

New Jersey EZ-Pass officials have gone on record as saying that this would make the system so unpopular, that nobody would use it. They admitted the technology is there, but they won't touch it. I'd have about a zillion tickets by now, anyway. :P

If/when I can find an internet link to corroborate this, I will post it.
