Just got done doing this drive on the 2nd and the Alabama state troopers were out IN FORCE in every construction zone running I/O Ka band. Saw several people getting pulled over but had no problem picking it up with the Pro 78 and the CB was a huge plus.

Not sure if you've done the road trip yet but they set the speed limit on I-20 from the state line to Talladega at 55! Something about an accident or something is what I caught on the CB for the drop from 70 down to 55 and the troopers were enforcing it!

Actually here is the news link for the speed drop:

Okay, back from the road trip. The tips given here were confirmed. The CB called out exit 205 on I-20 on the way back and I had plenty of warning before the RD went off. There were seven chase cars at exit 205 and an LEO pickup truck shooting laser off the bridge. I got K, Ka and laser all at that exit. Crazy!!!

Wouldn't it just be a better idea to fix the road instead of lower the PSL. It's so much better now that you are getting hit by road debris flying at you at 55mph. I say fix the unsafe highway.

On our way out on Tuesday they had crews out there fixing the west-bound lanes, patching pot holes (pretty bad for southern highways, a bad southern interstate is usually about the same as an "average" northern interstate in my experience). No crews on the way back... but it's Saturday.

Bingo! Some where around the 2nd on/off overpass from the Georgia state line , which was the 205 as you stated is were the work truck shoots laser down opon traffic. I got to see, as the rest area worker stated, 25 Troopers working the over pass a while back, blue lights everwhere....

By far the worse stretch of interstate is west of the Anniston/Oxford exit, the road is so rough a rutted that I have had to take my escort out of the windshield due to the bouncing.

My dad recently made the trip and told me about the decreased speed limit, he didn't know why though.

I have seen the 205 revenue trap several times, seems to be a favorite. Glad you had a safe and encounter free trip.

Alabama State Patrol (maybe even the Anniston/Oxford cops too) were out in force today on I-20, primarily just around the Anniston/Oxford area though. Douglas County (GA) was up to their usual antics with their FIND (your wallet) units running around between Post Rd and Hwy 5. I know they claim that these guys are supposed to be intercepting drugs on the highway, but usually they're just writing speeding tickets, in the hope that maybe out of a couple thousand citations they'll hit on someone transporting some pot (oh no!)

That 55 limit was doing a number to traffic, you had a few who were still doing 70ish, but it was just making everyone bunch up into packs. Lord forbid a semi try to pass on one of those hills, I think we got as low as 40-45 a couple of times because we got boxed in behind some trucks.

It would be a better idea to fix the roads but they have to set up the revenue generator first to pay for the roads. This requires lowering the speed limit to a ridiculously low speed and then have the LEO's sit out there and write tickets to collect the revenue. They do it in Florida and admit that it helps pay for road construction costs. At least they are honest about it.
