So I've been hearing a ton of LIDAR stories from SoCal, and a handful in Norcal. I drive alot in California, mostly SF Bay Area and Sacramento areas.
Some recent posts by others stating that laser is being used more and more in NorCal. So, go figure - on Thursday night last week I'm driving down Interstate 680 which connects San Jose with Interstate 80. Somewhere near Dublin, at NIGHT no less, I see this CHP cruiser parked sideways and the guy was running a laser gun out his window. He appeared to be aiming at traffic in the SLOW lane... not sure why, but given his angle, he was not targeting (at least the moment I passed him) fast lane traffic. That is UNLESS he was targeting fast lane traffic from a very far distance. I'm not sure what his threshold was, but there were plenty of "tickets" driving past him and he was not pulling anyone over. Perhaps he was waiting for a more juicy +25 or something.
I was not carrying my detector, so no laser warning. I was towing another vehicle and not going over PSL, but I did say "holy sh_t !" when I saw what he was up to.
