    Default VASCAR at night?

A part of the 14fwy that I travel on frequently has VASCAR markings on the shoulder and I've seen low-flying aircrafts parallel to the freeway a couple times during the night.

Is VASCAR ever used at night or are there some FAA regs prohibiting it? My logic points to "NO" since they can't plainly see the distance markers in the dark or ID your car, but can someone confirm an answer?

Cruiser-based VASCAR can certainly be used at night, as the police officer just has to see when your headlights cross the point to know for sure.

Aircraft-based, eh, I suppose it could be done, but I'd question the safety of it.

Correct, VASCAR can be and often is used in the evening for reason stated above.

Headlights make for very easy tracking at night between two distinct points.
