Most of the posts about VA seem to revolve around their use of RDD so I'm not sure if this is common knowledge or not.
My wife and I were driving home from vacation yesterday on I64 and she was tagged with an I/O KA shot. We were the only ones on the road so by the time my 8500 went off it was too late. The State Trooper wrote a ticket for having the 8500 ($51) but returned it and said to keep it in the glovebox. Now comes the kicker. She was doing 84 in a 65 so he wrote her up for reckless op. At the time we didn't think much of it and figured she would just mail in the fine. In Ohio doing 19 over the limit isn't a big deal especially on a low traffic highway. Well in Virginia it's a criminal offense. Anything over 80mph is considered reckless op in VA and carries the same penalty as a DUI, marijuana possession, assault & battery, etc... It also carries a mandatory court appearance and from what I read last night you better have an attorney. If found guilty you are looking at up to a $2500 fine and 12 months in jail. With no previous points I doubt it comes to that but it could easily still be well over $1k with attorney fees and fines. This is just insane for a speeding ticket.
Just something to consider when you thought your biggest issue was getting your RD impounded.
