    Default Gwinnett County Georgia

As of January 1, 2011 it will be illegal for any County or City police in Gwinnett County to use radar, lidar or Vascar for speed enforcement. If an officer does so he will be in violation of State Statute 40-14-10 as the State has refused to renew their license to use electronic speed detection devices!!!

The County and independent cities within the County are suing each other over how the proceeds of traffic tickets are distributed. The State has told them until this issue is settled they will not renew their permit to use speed detection devices.

The only means available for them to issue speeding citations will be pacing and visual estimation so be on the lookout in your rear view mirror!!!

Yes they can and will ticket you based on visual estimation only in GA.

    That sounds AWESOME!!!

Not the visual estimation part. That sounds like a load of bull.

Are those tickets easy to fight?

Yes the visual estimation tickets are easier to win, but GA makes it a pain in the butt to fight. You have to make 2 trips to court (always during the day). Therefore you have to miss 2 days of work to fight it.

Depends on whether you are in a real court or a kangaroo kourt!!!

Yes you could contend that your speedometer is a more accurate instrument than the officers eyes, and that your speedometer said you were doing the psl.

This probably won't last very long. DeKalb had a similar spat with the state (at least I think it was DeKalb) about 5-6 years ago and it was resolved within a matter of weeks. There's no way they'll let some administrative technicality keep them from raking in speeding ticket revenue for too long.
