There is a false myth that people will tell you that only Ohio and NewJersey use Xband.

    The myth is false.

We've seen reports here from IL, OH, NJ, NY, NC, SC, VA and a bunch of other states I don't remember.

    I'd suggest leaving it on.

It doesn't seem to be in use in the Southwest (though northern CA has it). I've never seen it used in Arizona, and I've only passed one *possible* X-band encounter in NM.

Seems like the Eastern Seaboard and the Midwest still use it most.

I thought no-one in CA has x-band. Where did you encounter it?

I personally haven't, but I have heard credible stories from people on this board that there are local agencies in northern CA still using some X-band equipment.

Interesting. Any idea on which agencies? After reading some advice from Bay Area users in the V1 forum I turned X-Band off on my V1, but it'd be good to know where I should have it on. :-)

You can find X-Band anywhere that hasn't had the budget to upgrade their existing systems. Most local towns by me in NJ that are more "poor" tend to use their X-Band, and the "rich" towns use a healthy bit of K-band.

The Ohio/NJ only thing is a myth. I've seen X in some backwoods PA towns too. I don't really drive outside the area much though, so I cant comment for other states.

When was the last time you were in PA? RADAR has NEVER been legal for local PD's here so what band being used is not dependent on a local budget.

Last time I saw X band in PA was around 1990 (a Decatur RA-Gun!!) Since then it has been nothing but K band from Kustom KR-10s, HR-12/Falcons, and the infamous Decatur Genesis. It does appear that finally PSP has been "testing" KA band units in the Phila-Allentown area and possibly Pittsburgh.
