Lately, I'd say the last month or so, maybe a little longer. Just about all major freeways in Columbus have these K band bursts. You can see a solar powered radar gun up on signs and/or poles. They are no less than a couple miles apart and will abruptly spike to full blast a radar detector. Similar to an IO shot and then abruptly fall off. It seems they are very focused guns, perhaps low power.
Was curious if anyone has seen these around town and actually know what they are used for. I do not believe these are for any kind of enforcement, and can wager a guess they are more for traffic reporting of speed and flow than anything else, since the apparatus is not coupled with any kind of camera.
That said I was curious if anyone knew for sure what they were for.
