    Default RADAR in my neighborhood

I saw our county LEOs today using the Kustom Signals Falcon hand held radar gun today. According to the RX65, the frequency that it picked up was K 24.122 mhz. Two LEOs in the new Dodge targeting the SB vehicles. The passenger side officer was the one using the hand held unit.

In my neighborhood, I'm all for RADAR enforcement; too many children walking to the local elementary school, playground, tennis courts, etc.

What county is this in? Honestly the only kind of enforcement necessary is maybe in a school zone. Everywhere else absolutely not. It's all about the revenue. How many times have you heard about kids in your neighborhood (or anywhere else in the USA) getting struck by 'speeding vehicles' after the kid blindly darted out into the road and if the vehicle had been driving exactly 25 or 30 or 35 the kid wouldn't have died? You can probably count those cases on 1 hand. Most of the time, people obey lower limits unless they set them ridiculous low for a revenue trap, which happens all the time. We shouldn't need radar in neighborhoods, parents should teach their kids not to be retarded and dart out into the streets. Parenting fail.

On another note I saw Howard County Police shooting handheld Falcon HR K-band guns in a 45mph zone last week. They were sitting at the bottom of a very steep hill. One was on each side of the road. Such bull**** and a complete speed trap all about revenue. Be sure to look out for them over there. Howard County cops have a reputation of being complete assholes and toolbags.

Most of the time they run speed enforcement in residential areas is when someone complains. The majority of the time one of the people they catch is the person complaining.

I'm in Howard county and yes the LEOs were doing the enforcement just after the "school zone." Speed limit on the main road is 35 mph and people will fly by doing well over 45 mph. Don't get me wrong, my right foot is very heavy, but I limit my speeding mostly to the highways.

Maybe I am a bit sensitive to the speeding in neighborhoods; I was about 7 years old when my friend across the street was struck and killed by a speeding car...to this day, I can still hear the sound of the impact as I had just walked into my house. Anyway you look at it, residential areas are no place for speed. Kids, no matter how much you teach and preach, will make some stupid mistakes (like chasing after the ball that went into the street), but a driver should be much more in tune of his/her surroundings where people are present.

I can't comment about the Howard county LEOs, I've never had the pleasure of being pulled over by one (knocks on wood). I do see that they tend to be very aggressive with generating revenue with the radar and lidar traps on 29, 100, and 216.

Sorry you had to experience that at such a young age, a tragety. I completely agree with you. I have two boys and constantly hound them to stay away from the road because most people are stupid to drive at PSL on our subdivision streets which is 20 MPH. Yeah, thats extremely slow. For revenue generation, no. The residents wanted it at 20. Originally it was 30, which is too fast for a subdivision. Most are doing 30 to 35 with 40 not uncommon. I don't even like my kids on the sidewalk where they belong. I have said this on here at least four times and I will say it again, there is a time and place for exceeding the PSL, but a subdivision is not one of those places, period!
Outside Independence Hall when the Constitutional Convention of 1787 ended, Mrs. Powel of Philadelphia asked Benjamin Franklin, "Well, Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?" With no hesitation whatsoever, Franklin responded, "A republic, if you can keep it."

Even there, it's a little ridiculous sometimes. In town with pedestrians and narrow streets and parked cars, sure, I have no problem being cautious. But there are schools here that are out in the country where I think that literally zero kids actually walk to school, but the school zone limit is still the same 15 MPH. I can literally stop in less than the length of my car at that speed, so why do I have to go that slow when I can see 50 feet to either side of the road and there's no one walking anyway?

Sorry to hear about your friend, I had a similar experience when I was 11. This was in Baltimore city, in a 30 MPH marked zone, a neighbor of mine darted into the road and was struck and killed by a car at 40MPH. The guy stopped and everything but he still died. Would it have made a difference if he had been going 35 or the exact PSL? Probably not. The cops didn't charge him with anything. It was his own fault to run out into traffic. Smacking your head on the ground at any rate of speed is going to really mess you up if not kill you unless you're going 5 mph.

Anyways, all I have to say is kids should know better, I lived in the city growing up and never got hit by a car, because I never ran into the road.

Howard County cops are dicks, ask around I'm sure someone has had a negative run in with them. I haven't, but my friends have. Cited for going 9 over the PSL and so forth. Dumb.
