890 is a 55mph, 4-lane highway running parallel to the Thruway through Schenectady and a few other towns. It is also a speeder's nightmare. Yesterday my girlfriend saw one of the nastiest traps I've heard of, reporting that there were 6 to 8 NYSP vehicles lined up on the side of the road with victims. I have seen smaller versions of the same trap set up all along that road. They generally use a spotter with LIDAR on an overpass, radioing to the chase cars who are lined up on the on-ramp. Other nasty tactics used on 890 include hiding on the far side of an overpass and zapping people from behind with instant Ka. The last time I was treated to that show it was courtesy of their Camaro (or one of them) who pulled over an SUV who couldn't have been doing much more than 70.
As a rule I do not do much more than 5 over on that road. One of my local friends tells me that it is probably the most heavily travelled highway in the state on a per-mile basis.
